I was somewhat okay with it in regards to SPM because it was still a somewhat fun game, but I was very excited to hear sticker star would be a return to form. This isn't my opinion, this is an observation. There's an entire cherrypicked image that keeps getting posted on here about how the removing the story 'ruined' the game. When in reality, the game remained interesting and fun without it, without the pointless filler that plagued both TTYD and SPM. But the detractors don't accept the game is better without the pointless aspects to it because it makes their children's game seem more childish.
Following people who complain at length about Sticker Star's approach, like that blue muppet fucker Arlo, really demonstrates just how despicable these people really are. They have a bizarre fixation on blaming Miyamoto for 'not taking children's games seriously enough' and constantly rant and rave over being expected to enjoy a game for being a game. Seeing him criticize Star Fox Zero really put this into perspective for me. To him, because the game didn't have some kind of deep, overarching plot, it was next to worthless. He even pretended the controls don't work, which we now know is a sign of someone who does NOT know how to play a video game.
I do not make the comparisons with Sonic fans lightly. These people are much more interested in being perceived as 'cool' and hip than actually enjoying the games they claim to enjoy. They are posers, plain and simple. Pretendos. They Pretend to like Nintendo games in order to be a part of a community online, because they have nothing else in their daily lives.

That's not true at all, people pointed out the issues with the gameplay as well a lot in these threads. It's about 50/50 with each other since they're both issues with the game.
Even if that wasn't the case though people look for different things in a game since not only 1 specific aspect of the game is the most important part to everyone & should only get focus, it takes multiple aspects to make a truly good game and that's why people applaud TTYD, it balanced it all out rather well (not to make it sound like a perfect game though, it of course has it's flaws).
