It's better imo. More enemy variety, more interesting class abilities, also no boring "move 5 tiles then overwatch" for the first 10 turns of combat until you encounter someone.
I hope you at least buy it, XCOM 2 is a really good game and I'm eagerly looking forward to the MEC DLC that's coming out at some point in the nearby future.
Although why you'd play a game like that with a controller, I couldn't say.
