They're right about Japan's current obsession with hand-holding, and not all of the games are like that.
Look at Skyward Sword compared to Ocarina of Time. There is very little sense of adventure, because you get your hand held for the entire game. Final Fantasy 13 is just as bad with its straight maps. Both games are coddling the players.
That being said, Western games are just as bad with yearly releases like Call of Duty.
