The problem with STLM is that it applies a uniform lighting to every area in the game and while this may make the game look more consistent, it can be noticeably inferior to vanilla in more than just a few cases (as lampshaded by the author of the mod himself, who PREFERS the vanilla lighting) due to the fact that the vanilla game adjusts its lighting to different areas quite drastically.
