Nintendo makes better games when they have a restricted time to make it, majoras mask and Pikmin 2 are examples of nintendo games that took less time to make but turned out better than anything that is being developing for for 5 years (skyward sword)

The fact that they choose to build a completely new game from ground up is embarrassing and very unethical business wise. Not gonna lie, I'm pretty sad about Nintendo's E3 this year. I'm an idort but I always looked forward to new Nintendo stuff. Hopefully Zelda is what we hoped for.
I'm guessing the company is pretty shook up from the Wii U's failure and Iwata's death, so they're probably doing some major self-reflection and planning so that the future will be more successful. I'd like to think that the new 2017 Nintendo with NX is more focused on dedicated gamers rather than casuals, but I guess I wouldn't be surprised if that wasn't the case.

Well, the Wii U was an attempt to regain core gamers while still retaining the casual market, hence the 100% backwards compatibility and whatnot. This was around the time Nintendo realized the Wii was a huge fluke and that they are probably never going to get sales like that again.
I have a feeling the NX will be more traditional, in both good and bad ways. It will probably be stronger (hopefully as strong as PS4k), and also have worse consumer features. I wouldn't be surprised at paid online.

The Wiimote had that. The Kinect had that. The DK bongos had that.
The gamepad never had that. It felt like most games had to arbitrarily use it unless they were built around it like Splatoon and Mario Maker. I mean, shit, some of the best games on the system don't even use it.

Splatoon didn't really need the second screen... I'm not sure anyone uses it to survey the map, since it's so fast paced. The only thing I ever use it for is choosing my respawn point, and that could be done with just a gyroscope too.
Mario Maker is the only really compelling argument for the gamepad. But could it have been done by just connecting to a tablet app or something?

I think the Wii U had a perfect storm of missed opportunities. The gamepad was gimmicky instead of actually game-changing (navigating menus will never be as easy as the wii pointer), the system was underpowered to the point of losing multiplats, the online system is behind, and the account system didn't really effect anyone but was a source of shitposting across the internet.
On top of this, bad marketing and a terrible name to boot.
