The whole reason it wasn't a PS4 exclusive is because Insomniac wanted to own the IP. Sony said they'd fund it, but in return they get to hold on to the IP. Insomniac weren't pleased with this and subsequently went to Microsoft, who said that they could keep the IP, but it'd have to be an Xbone exclusive in return (Obviously this is before they'd just given up and attempted this Xbone/W10 merger thing).

But let's be honest, this gen has been disappointing as hell so far. The WiiU has already been dropped, everything is going multi-platform, the PS4 has 1-3 good exclusives and requires subscription for multiplayer, and we haven't really seen any leaps forward in technical capabilities.
It seems like they only made their new consoles because the market was ready to pay for them.

To begin with yeah, but working on them for such a long time must have made them disinterested in the series. Earning money is great and all but Insomniac have said multiple time that they're interested in creating new IP's that it's their focus.Fuse and Sunset were gambles because they were interested in moving forward not slightly upgrading Ratchet every year or two.
They don't go into making games going this is going to be shit they work there arses off to try and make a great game sometimes they'll succeed other times they fail. This isn't EA that's run by 10000 shareholders this is an indie studio owned by one guy who's been in the industry for 25 years, at this point I would think Ted's more interested in having insomniac branch out and have fun creating new games rather than make easy money pumping out Ratchet and Resistance for Sony.
I love Ratchet but it was getting milked to death during the PS2-PS3 days.

That's just how Sony operates. Ready At Dawn wanted to buy The Order 1886 IP from Sony and release it on PC as a self published game. Sony completely refused to sell it. RAD only got to keep the engine because it was their own proprietary tech. Evolution Studios who lost their engine when Sony shut them down and when they reformed under Codemasters (Which they were OK with losing because the Codemasters EGO engine is a beast. Their games will look amazing on PC).

RAD Created it. It was signed with the terms of the deal including RAD giving up IP rights to Sony and Santa Monica was only a consulting studio like they do on many titles. RAD was perfectly entitled to ask Sony if they could sell it back and they would pay for it. Sony said "No" and are now sitting on it like all those other IP's they like to sit on like SOCOM, the Mark of Kri, Dark Cloud. Maybe if you are lucky you might get a kickstarter like Amplitude so you can fund Sony's games for them!

I see where Microsoft is going with the Xbox, basically turning it into a cheap PC designed for use in a living room as a gaming/multimedia device. Which makes sense, if it ran normal Windows 10 so you could install Steam or anything else you want, it'd be a pretty compelling box for $300. But then fucking why are they still charging for online? It drives away people towards PCs where they don't have to do that, and they give away more than $60 worth of games every year with Live (and you can get live for a bit cheaper than $60/year if you wait for sales).

Disregarding the game libraries, I think the Xbone itself is a better console than the PS4. Of course this is extremely subjective, but I think it has a better controller and general interface, and integration with Windows like being able to stream your games to any Windows PC. Microsoft also generally prioritizes 60fps over resolution in games, and nobody buys a console for specs anyways, so the few good exclusives it does have play better than the 30fps games on the PS4.

They should just turn Xbox Live into a Netflix for games. Like you pay $60 a year and can download any three games a month you want from their library. And make it NOT required for online/streaming services like Netflix that don't even use Microsoft's servers. They wouldn't need to make it necessary for online to have it sell like hotcakes, people love subscription services these days. What the average consumer will see is, "Woah, more games than I can ever play for $60 a year? Count me in!". And then if they don't charge for online, the Xbone is a $300 Windows box that you can use as a very capable multimedia device with an interface optimized for the living room, and as a cheap box to play multiplats on. $300 PCs aren't that much better than an Xbone in this scenario, especially if you include the cost of Windows and that even ITX computers are bigger & louder than the Xbone, which is big for a console.

The Xbone is cheaper now, has all the same games because the vast majority of console gamers only play multiplats, has a better online infrastructure (cloud computing can be used for online games, unfortunately we have yet to see any awesome implementations of it), has better multimedia features, if Microsoft fulfills their vision then you'll own the PC and Xbox copies of all your games, other Windows integration, etc etc. And yeah, streaming the output from an Xbox to a laptop or something is convenient for some people. It makes it so you don't have to move your Xbox to a different place in your house if you want to game somewhere else in your house.

It's a pretty solid launch title. Here's hoping they announce a sequel that they threw at the end of SO
SO was fun, but not great. It's only exciting because the game has a lot of potential for a sequel to improve upon it. They just need to get a better writer and make a few small adjustments to the other parts of the game and make the campaign longer.
