>>
It was above average.
>>
>>340379107
Name a 3rd person shooter with better controls. Does it run at 60fps? Also the cutscenes were badass. I'm going to say yes. It was a good game.
>>
It was revolutionary thematically and amazing as a game. It's a shame the theme made the story feel incomplete and disappointing but well, that's the point so whatever.

one of my favorite single player games
>>
It was a good game

But a bad metal gear game
>>
No, not really. With its graphics and core mechanics it could have been an amazing game, but they flubbed it hard in almost every way. Sad way to end such a great series.
>>
Gameplay and visuals are great.

Story and the actual levels were mediocre to bad. Open world was a mistake - it was fun to be able to approach a base in different ways, but we didn't need all those miles of empty space between bases that serve literally zero purpose.

Game should've been more linear. Give us large bases that we can approach from any angle, but don't give us miles of surrounding wastespace. Almost like Ground Zeroes.
>>
>>340379107
The gameplay was exceptionally good, but the story was garbage.
>>
She climbed the rock face and stood at the top. There, she could see the earth stretching all the way to the horizon. Aah, is this really how big the world is? The sky is so blue it makes me dizzy, and so very high. Its deep blue hue and height tell me of its connection into outer space. Is there truly no place where I belong, not even in this vast world?
'I'll take you there.' Where could it be, Boss? Can I see it from here?
The heat in Quiet's chest grew too much to bear, and she fell to her knees. Her tears ran down her cheeks and to her neck before dripping to her chest. It was time to close her mouth.
"I am Quiet. I am... the absence of words"
Placing her hand to her chest, she apologized to the newly-born children within. Sorry, but I can't let you out of here. You will disappear with me.
Quiet doused herself with the gas tank, and ignited it with Big Boss's lighter.
>>
It was fun.
>>
No. If they built actual MGs tier levels instead of a dead open world then it could have been amazing.
>>
>>340379107
Fuck yes.
>The graphics are badass.
>The gunplay is badass.
>The cutscenes, though rarer than in other MGS games still BTFO of any other game's.
>The base management was deep and rewarding.
>You got to have an old fashioned smatphone in the 80's able to call in airstrikes on demand
>Tons of different items, most of them having niche uses, if not fun ones.
>Tfw you order a shipment of ammo on your way to a fight
>Tfw you drag a body out of sight and fulton it
>Fultoning everything
>Mother base is cozy af
>Added free multiplayer after promising nothing
>Still has that MGS weirdness that jars in just the right way with the cinematic cutscenes to be kinda hilarious
>Open world
>Beautiful world, maybe could've used another region
>Listening to ocelot's tapes while you chill in the cozy aerial base
>D-Dog
And the list goes on

A letdown in the case of actual content.
A great game in the case of actual Gameplay.
>>
>>340379107
Anyone who needs to ask this question is retarded and has no clue about what makes a game good

the core controls might be good (hence it has potential for application in complex levels and mission objectives), but basically after you've completed these 3 missions (rescue kaz, a heros way and the one where you dash around to stop and extract tanks) youve seen every piece of truly unique content they managed to come up with

they focused on stupid shit like making 3 different functioning inflatable balloons and adding retarded deployment systems and huge open worlds

Ground Zeroes was a good game, no matter its quantity but it was easily the best stealth game since chaos theory

TPP is like its retarded child, it cannot even fucking get the same gamefeel and animations correct the second time, they just had to make it floaty weightless shit because kids complained how Snake didnt snap 180 in a nanosecond

All in all its a tech demo with nothing impressive to show besides the lighting and maybe the ballistic detection, even the graphics got worse from GZ

link related, has the animations/ graphical quality of GZ, textures look much better than even TPP maxed out on PC

No, it wasn't. It was ruined by ~muh ruse~ Kojima and his inability to tell the story he marketed/people wanted to see.

Kojima is a fucking idiot for not delivering the "missing link between Big Boss MGS:PW/MG1"
>>
>>340379107
Depends on the angle of your approach. As a sandbox that lets the player fuck around it's alright, if a tad dull. As a tense sneaking experience the game usually fails to be compelling, though. And the story is pretty shit. It's sloppy in a lot of ways, but it isn't awful despite having some awful parts.
>>
>>340385241
>Kojima is a fucking idiot for not delivering the "missing link between Big Boss MGS:PW/MG1"
There wasn't much of anything missing. The trailers were certainly misleading, though.
>>
>>340379107
Well the foundations for it as a TPS are fantastic, its just the other parts that suck. Open world was maybe not a mistake, but it was poorly designed. AI was stupid. Very little challenge.

Honestly if they had just slapped in some coop, removed all the story and made it so you made a character, outfit him, select and do objectives it would have been a more enjoyable game. I feel like trying to be a MGS game held it back.

There was plenty missing. How did Big Boss become this evil child enslaver? How did Outer Heaven get built? What caused him to "go over the edge"

Now they can say "oh well that's US propaganda" but he had every fucking reason to turn on the US after Snake Eater. The fact that Kojima dragged it on so long to the point where we never got the definitive end to his story arc is entirely on him.
>>
Good game, absolutely abysmal metal gear solid game.
>>
>"It's an amazing game," he said. "While not to say that it's open-world, users who enjoy today's AAA games (The Division and Uncharted, etc) will be able to easily enjoy it.
>"When it is announced, you might think, 'That's not outstanding,' but you'll understand when you see it and play it. The genre is action."

>How did Big Boss become this evil child enslaver?
PW leaves him dismissive of moral responsibility with an increased emphasis on living solely to sneak and shoot. The only difference between PW and MG1 BB is that the latter assumes a more active approach to war. This is admittedly a decent gap, but it's easily filled by Big Boss's own explanation in MG2. What we don't know is easily pieced together.

Despite MGSV's general shittiness, we do see Big Boss as the manipulative egocentric cunt he was introduced as anyway. MGSV actually provides the missing link you're bitching for, just in an amusingly slanted way.
>How did Outer Heaven get built?
PW ends with Big Boss declaring the MSF base Outer Heaven. MGSV rains on his parade by blowing it up, but it's always been the case that Big Boss builds OH in secret while commanding FOXHOUND. TPP once again reaffirms this.

PW and MGSV were both mistakes. MGS3 planted the seeds for Naked Snake to become "Big Boss" just fine. It's not like his character was in dire need of elaboration anyway. He explains everything you need to know about him himself in MG2.

>>
I never played any other MGS (other than Revenges, PC master race amirite g-guis? ;-;) and I must say that I enjoyed the game.

I felt that the open world aspect was pointless since you never use it anyways and they could have saved some time and money there.

The stealth was good and I loved how it truly allowed to play both ways without sort of feeling like shit for breaking stealth. I still reloaded checkpoints from time to time, but considering that there are missions there which focus on straight fighting and destroying shit... yeah.

Good game, but I understand why diehard fans are upset about it.
>>
I thought so, yea
it was clearly unfinished, and the ending just kind of trailed off, but the gameplay was very good, and it looked pretty, I had fun even if the story was meh

>>
>>340386975
another thing I wanted to add was that they shot themselves in the knee for making it that huge and it was pointless.

There was no reason not to just make the whole game as chapter one and put the story missions back to back and have everything else (the repeated challenge missions) as just optional challenges.

You can't expect me to believe that it's a different mission when it's just the same one but this time I am not allowed to use weapons.

>>340387167
I never got the hate for the repeat missions. PW had a lot more and they were a lot worse (three variations on each mech and dozens of variations on armored vehichle/tank/chopper with each just being more and more grindy), if anything I would have liked more of them. I guess most people thought that they were mandatory but you could skip them entirely
>>
Chapter one yes

Chapter two no
>>
>>340388306
To be honest I felt like the repeated missions fit well within PW, because as weird as it may sound, PW is a PSP game so it just works there and its not expected to be as revolutionary and groundbreaking as a AAA game that was in the making 5 years.
But when you bring it to your flagship game it fells tacked on and a cheap filler.

All in all, I wouldn't mind more of them, or at least the option to go subsistence on every mission.

Gameplay? I thought it played pretty darn well.

Plot/Story/Pacing/whatever? Garbage, like everyone else is saying.

Too many recycled/redudant phrases (Phantoms, Copulation, Lingua Franca, etc), forced BS fantascience (archaea = proto-nanomachines; also lol parasites), and just too much hammy dialogue altogether. Also Miller being a completely unstable, PTSD ridden mess and not a single person calls him on his obvious bullshit the ENTIRE game.

The final Paz tape, while great in execution given the context of the overall plot, was too little too late.

Given that, if there were more story elements/plot points centered on your brainwashed psyche trying to reach out and "contact" you, I'd have more enjoyed that part of the plot.

Also fuck spoilers.

the level is the best in any MGS game to date, the meticulous thought in how youre going to approach anything ( even the very first seconds are obvious about this since you can either challenge the iron fence with 2 guards or inch along the cliffside towards the watchtower)

Not to mention the objectives are perfect (extract chico and paz, both in different locations on the map, no fulton shit)

Ocelot in V is the real Ocelot. Before now, we'd only seen him putting on various acts. Here, he's got no reason to pretend; he's helping Venom, plain and simple.
>>
>>340379467
>Also the cutscenes were badass.

Let's see what V's gameplay has going for it

-Worse guard AI than MGS1
-No good level design
-CQC, buddies, unlimited sprint and magazines are all OP as shit
-tons of items and gadgets are useless
-very little enemy variety
-no decision making or having to hide guard bodies, just fulton everything

I don't know how you could say the gameplay is great unless your definition of great gameplay is just having good controls. Even then it's arguable considering how janky the cover system is compared to every other MGS game after 2.

MGS1 guards can track your footprints in the snow, can follow a bead if they think they saw you instead of just giving up right away, will shoot down your nikita missiles unlike V's guards that think the rocket fist is invisible, will actually wreck you if you get caught. The only thing V's guards haven better is vision range which is still shit considering how wide open the game is.
>The entire game is built around freedom of choice, of course the game is going to be literal ezmode if you play with all the ezmode gear
The game is still pretty damn easy using solely the water gun. All that freedom of choice is completely trivialized since there's never any reason to use most of your choices.
