What are some games where you canonically get to revisit locations form previous games
MGS4. Get to revisit Shadow Moses.
Tales of Xillia 2 and final fantasy XIII-2 and X-2
Dead Space 2. Technically Halo 3, but not really.
>>340373250
Jak 3
Sonic Generations
Mario Galaxy 2 (Throwback Galaxy)
>>340373250
You return to the "Hub Ruins," the first level of Turok 1, in Turok 3.
>>340373250
Pokemon Gold/Silver/Crystal/HeartGold/SoulSilver
Pokemon Black2/White2
Ace Combat 0 or 5 depending on if you mean chronologically or release order
Mario Kart games from 5th gen onwards have courses from previous games
Dark Souls 3 :^)
>>340373957
As an addendum Ace Combats 3 & 4 take place on the same continent as 2 and 1 was retconned to take place on a small chain of islands on the southwest edge of that continent but I don't believe you revisit any locations
Gothic 2.
Does Dark Souls 3 count?
Street Fighter V.
Baten Kaitos 2 (origins)
In most Ultima games you revisit Britannia
The Witcher 3 - Kaer Morhen
Broken Sword - Cafe de la chandelle verte
Dragon Quest 2 and 3
>>340374987
>Broken Sword - Cafe de la chandelle verte
Wait, I'm an idiot. I meant Cafè de Montfaucon, la chandelle verte is the one at the beginning of the first game.
Portal 2
>>340375125
You really don't even need the third image now. The ruined Tourian is enough to show same location. That the new one is identical but a different location is just a garnish.
>>340373401
>Dead Space 2
Revisiting the Ishimura was very creepy. Easily one of the most memorably parts of the series.
>>340373250
>Mother Brain
That's not even the same room
Fallout 1 and 2 basically share a map
Pikmin 2
>>340375894
Oh shit, that makes sense. I was about to call bullshit but the lakes are too similar.
Borderlands
>>340373357
Tales of Xillia 2 really shouldn't count given how literally nothing has changed because they just reused the exact same goddamn maps
>>340373880
Whoa! Is less foggy.
>>340377005
Shame it was just the one mission.
Gothic 2 lets you revisit locations from the first one. Great moments actually
Borderlands 2, near the end of the game you visit the bus-stop where first game started, and bunch of other places near it.
It was pretty cool moment.
>>340374434
This part genuinely made me cry. No joke
>>340380242
Jesus fucking christ.
>>340373250
Going full turboautist but Tourian isn't the same area you fight Mother Brain in Super. The original area is close to where you get the Morphball right near the beginning of the game.
>>340373250
>Dragon Warrior 2 on NES
>random island in the middle of nowhere
>surrounded by mountains on all sides, hard to get to
>get off my boat
>different world map music starts playing
>"Hey, this sounds like the theme from the first game."
>realize that all the landmarks from DW1 are all there
>the swamp, the towns, the bridges, etc. have all been compressed closer together
>nostalgia so hard
Shit was magical. Even though I was only like eight years old at the time.
Going back to an old game location to see how it's changed over time is the greatest vidya trope ever.
On topic: The last area of Pikmin 2 is a greatly expanded version of the Crash Site from Pikmin 1.
>>340375571
No they don't you fucking mongoloid.
They share a tiny line of squares.
>>340375894
>the entire first game's overworld is just one screen of a huge-ass map in the second game
Really puts things into perspective.
>>340380242
yeah pandering really bothers me too anon
or do you mean what happened to gwyndolin because yeah he didn't deserve that, he was a good boy.
>>340373250
Legacy of Kain series.
Dragon Warrior II
Dragon Warrior III
>>340373340
Probably the most heartbreaking of all. Not only is it a huge length of real world time and video game technology since you last visited, but the whole thing is dying. Snake is old and doesn't have long to live, and Shadow Moses is abandoned, frozen over, and receding into the ocean. And when Snake sees the old survielence camera and has a flashback to MGS1 before it breaks off and shatters on the ground, the whole thing just carries this sorrowful feeling of something proud coming to an end.
>>340381856
Didnt you mean a goodgirl
>>340373957
The first time I played Gold on my brick Game Boy I was fucking amazed to discovered I could go back to the old country with that shinkansen.
Amazing game.
>>340377093
Also, I'm pretty sure in the manual or something, it says that Link went north after defeating Ganon in Zelda1.
He starts off pretty far north of that corner.
>>340373957
>Pokemon Gold/Silver/Crystal/HeartGold/SoulSilver
Probably my favorite of any game that's ever done this. It was, minus a few exceptions, Kanto in its entirety seven years or whatever into the future. All of the arrangements of the original music really added to it all.
Then HGSS were such good remakes that I got the same feeling from playing them as I did the originals.
Pokemon GSC.
Best example ever imo.
>>340373250
>only 2 mentions
Gothic 2, go play it now.
The best
>>340381856
I don't really mind pandering when I'm the one being pandered to
Do you remember how you felt the first time? Cresting that ridge and seeing the old helipad in the distance?
And then it starts playing...

I knew about hte "spoiler" for 3, yet it still floored me. 2 also floored me as wellBut in a bad way.
>>340375125
I mean if you're gonna be like that.
>>340384084
>We almost got a Banjo game that was entirely based on returning to old areas and seeing how they changed
Don't remind me, anon
>>340384221
That'd be cool but I'm glad we live in a timeline where the Banjo team got to work on an entirely new Banjo-style game.
>>340373250
donkey kong country 2
first level is the last level of the first game
Going to Shady Sands in Fallout 2 and seeing that the small farm town turned into the capital of the NCR was tight.
>>340384446
speaking of DK,Tropical Freeze had you go through Returns DK Island as the last world you visit
>>340384949
>seeing Old Tandi for the first time
>>340384084
Third image from where? Poops N' Bolts?
>>340385781
Fourth*
>>340373250
I know it's in the OP and all, but Metroid is probably my favorite version of this. I love seeing all the similarities between the first time you visit Zebes in Metroid/Zero Mission and in Super Metroid.
>>340385478
Not him but shit, that was the goddamned shit.
Also reminds me that ALBW does this with ALTTP's Hyrule map.
>>340385781
Third BK image is from a GBA Banjo Kazooie.
>>340385858
yeh
>>340375894
Just shows how shitty Zelda 2's overworld map is.
When you go through Ymir forest to get to the Elf village in Tales of Symphonia and you see the same wood plank bridges over the water from Tales of Phantasia
>>340375613
I didn't recognize it at all until Olimar mentioned it in his journal. Even then it was pretty hard to see.
That revisit in dead space 2 was GOAT
Golden Sun should count right?
I mean, to be fair, it's just an extension of the world map of the previous game, though you can still get to the location of the first game.
>>340385614
She was such a QT in Fallout.
