This game is so fucking good, holy shit. Odin Sphere was already my favourite VW game despite all its problems, and this is basically that with everything they've learned about combat design from Muramasa and Dragon's Crown, and the more tedious bits cut down. Plus the original is still there on the disk if you want to play it.
I never buy CEs but I'm really glad I got the Storybook Edition for this.
You really need to play on Hard though. And even then it's still easier than the original.

Yeah. The original was fucking brutal unless you abused the hell out of alchemy, but this one is pretty easy even on Hard because all the playable characters are OP as hell. The enemies are more aggressive and come in larger groups, but they just can't keep up when all the playable characters can shit out 200 hit combos and really powerful skills like nothing. Also the game drops you tons of Healing Tonics for some reason.
That's based on just Gwendolyn's story though. Velvet's story and Armageddon might still be cunts, I dunno.

Never got to play it on PS2. I'm playing it on vita, and I love it. I got the Storybook for PS4 because they didn't have one for the Vita.
I guess maybe I'll get a PS4 eventually, or I'll just resell it.
I grabbed this game pretty early, like June 1st. Haven't had any desire to actually play it, for some reason. The artbook I got for free is pretty sweet though.

It's not too bad at first but Classic Velvet will probably hand you your ass a few times. And Ringford as Gwen almost made me ragequit the game back in the day. She winds up being one of the hardest characters to play as because you don't know very many potion recipes yet, and she doesn't get her overpowered skill until such a high level that you might finish her story without ever unlocking it.
And then Velvet's book is just pure fucking suffering in the original. They put the weakest/most difficult to use character up against the most ridiculously unfair bosses.

I had like 13 hours on gwen and like 8ish on pooka.

Youre retreading maps alot but they change the layout of stages for each character.
The gameplay is different enough for each character so you dont have to worry about that type of shit unlike the original
Even Hard mode is a bit too easy. This is my first time playing too. Just finished Dark Souls 3 yesterday, so maybe that's why it feels easy in comparison. Plus, I have tendency to explore a lot and over level my characters.
They really did do a fantastic job on this game. I was lucky though. I assumed it was only getting a digital release but released there were in fact physical copies at the last minute. I went to (FUCKING) GameStop today and managed to get the only copy they had. The guy there even hooked me up with the artbook too.
Anyway, I can decide really fast if I'm going to like a game or not. After two hours of playtime, I know I'm going to absolutely love it. Definitely buy it ASAP

Each character has like 20 skills now unique to them. Gwen has a bunch of ice based spells for instance (she's gets an awesome looking blizzard that hits the entire screen) and Velvet has a bunch of flame attacks.

Also, for some easy phozons. Put some food into a material till you get it to level 9, add two seeds, and the go to a mid-boss level with a lot of adds (like the dwarf boss) and then use it. You can get like 150+ that way easy.

I really liked Muramasa partly because of how fast-paced and quick the combat is. The speed feels very much like DMC or Bayonetta. I tried Odin Sphere and didn't get far in but I felt that the combat is very slow in comparison and it was a bit of a turn-off for me. Same with Dragon's Crown.
Are there weapons or other abilities I can get later that make the games faster-paced? Should I give them more of a chance?

I just beat BigMcLargeHuge and I have to say that was really disappointing after the Velvet fight. He just kinda stood there after I knocked his nipple guards off.

There's a OS:Leifthasir demo that should give you a better feel for how it plays before dropping any cash on it.
I've only played Dragon's Crown and the Muramasa remake, but the combat so far in in Leifthasir feels like a faster DCrown with some infrequent pauses to use potions midfight. Like >>340375328 noted earlier, your combos can get absolutely insane when you meet an enemy fat enough to take a pounding.

I'm level 20 right now so 17-18 seems right. Are you making use of the ice shot skill? It's cheap and freezes stuff quite easily. I've also been using beak dive a lot but that's because I forgot there's a dedicated dodge button.
