They should've focused on just one aspect of Battleborn if they wanted it to be good enough for $60. As it stands the campaign is 8 half-baked poorly tuned maps, the competitive is mostly 1 map on 1 mode, and the only good thing about it is the 26 character roster, but even that is balanced so poorly it's laughable.
Gearbox fucked up. If they'd focused purely on campaign or purely on competitive and charged $20 for it it'd have done far better.

Yes but it's still disheartening to see this game constantly bombarded by hate and being blocked from positive discussion here on /v/, just because of bad business planning.
The game is great, it's: fun, rewarding, encourages the player to work for their reward, and it has a diverse cast of characters to choose from. Heck the humor isn't even that bad, just look at what happens if you're under rank 3 and try to access the armory

>>340355698
>encourages the player to work for their reward
Here's what this means. You need to grind to unlock the roster, then grind to unlock their mutations, and then grind again to unlock their legendaries.
It took me 30 hours to unlock the all of roster alone. It then took me another 30 hours to unlock Alani with 47500 credits. In this time, I managed to only completely unlock 1 character's mutations.
Why is this F2P grind in a $60 game?

>>340355698
>encourages the player to work for their reward
But that's one of the advantages of Overwatch, anon.
Think about it like this: people who grind shit for hours are the usual MMO players = neckbeards with no girlfriends atracted to waifubait.
If you put grinding in your game, normal people with 3-4 hours a day to play won't like the grinding. And the neckbeards with 12 hours per day for gaming will not grind it because they want the waifubait.
Battleborn failed to atract the neckbeards that would enjoy the grinding and failed to atract the normalfags BECAUSE of the grinding.
Not to mention, 60$ FUCKING BUCKS AND I STILL GOTTA GRIND SHIT? ARE YOU OUTTA OF YOUR FUCKING MIND?
For that price, I can buy Overwatch and 20 loot crates. I don't want to play Warframe again anon.

>>340358412
Turning down that free offer for plastic surgery was a mistake.
>>340353050
battleborn's art design is horrific
>>340356005
At least you don't have to pay money to unlock all of them as it would be in an actual F2P game, the grinding in this game is a challenge that gives you a sense of accomplishment because you worked hard to unlock them all by completing a task , just like the old days of gaming where you didn't have to take the easy way out.
But I will agree that the 47500 credits thing is absolute bullshit, but if you don't think that completing challenges to unlock characters is fun that's perfectly ok, this game isn't for everyone anyways.
>>340358571
>this game isn't for anyone anyways
FTFY
>>340348842
Because I have better things to do up to and including literally anything.
>>340358571
I didn't mind unlocking the original roster, but it's the mutations, Alani, and the legendary gear that riles me up. Were you around when Alamo won games? If you grinded for it, you won, and you didn't have it you lost.
The same shit is happening now with Chrono Key and the health link bullshit. In what is supposed to be a competitive game.
I Like it and I am having fun with it. It has way more content that overwatch and some games can last up to 30 minutes or more.

>>340359085
>mutations
I don't really have much of a problem with this, personally I believe that even with special unlocks, some regular builds can still be viable and in some cases better but I see your point
>Alani
This one I understand lot's of health, damage and survivability but I think this can be remedied by balancing. This is the only one that I'm unsure of.
>legendary gear
Now for this one Gearbox actually has a plan for, legendary gear may be powerful but it takes a lot longer to activate, especially if you're load out is full of them. Now I know that some players can find a loophole around this but it depends on the players skill.
As I said before in mutations, to me it depends on what the player can do and not all matches are heavily reliant on the gear a player has, a player who has lower lvl gear but can activate it quicker can turn the tide of a match quickly.
> If you grinded for it, you won, and you didn't have it you lost.
Now for this here's what I belive, even if you don't have the newest unlock you can still do good with rest, for example, LOL during Illaoi/Juggernaut release; although she was incredibly op, you didn't need to have her to stomp as you could also have Garen who's; a free champ, easily unlockable and was very strong as a result of the Bitch rework.
You brought up some good points and you are right on some parts but this is just my opinion
>>340349523
>Freak off, crapposter.
>Battleborn is a predominantly console game
SAGE goes in all fields
>>340358571
> the grinding in this game is a challenge that gives you a sense of accomplishment because you worked hard to unlock them all by completing a task
This is terrible reasoning anon.
And I'll tell you why because I'm feeling nice today.
>the grinding in this game is a challenge
It's not. Grinding only challenges your patience.
Wether you lose or you win, you always get some currency, some progress. Sure, you get more when you win, but that leads to you getting angry when you lose because you know that's gonna cost you sometime.
If you're in a bad roll and lose 5 games in a row, all you're thinking is that now you have to "work" even more to buy the same shit you wanted.
>sense of accomplishment
It's never really there anon. I advise you to read up on Skinner's Box. You'll feel that rush and that "sense of accomplishment" the first few times. You won't feel that after a few unlocks. And I'm talking 5-6 unlocks into the game.
How long until the unlocks turn into a "checklist" that you feel a need to complete?
How long until you lose that motivation to play?
What happens then?
>worked hard
You're not working. You're playing. You should be having fun, not working for things. Players who get amazing skill at a certain game didn't "work" for it. They practiced. Players who unlock a secret costume in an old fantasy game didn't "work" for it. They explored the world.
You're not doing any work. You're repeating the same mindless task over and over again, feeling a false sense of progress that was manufactured so you'd feel slightly accomplished, but not enough to stop playing.
It's not real anon. Nothing about that is real. Again, read on skinner boxes.
Overwatch also implemented a progression system of sorts. Thankfully, it's entirely cosmetic. People that like to grind get their toys, people who don't (or don't have time) can straight up buy shit.
Both groups are appeased. The Skinner's Effect is still there but lessened and the gameplay isn't reliant on it.
>>340361397
legendary gear may be powerful
>but it takes a lot longer to activate
The problem is:
>some players can find a loophole
And they did. Matches last too long for that.
I've only watched streams so far (zero interest to pick it up after watching it) and the main problem with the "item is better but takes longer" is the match time.
You'll be underpowered for a while, yes. And you're gonna lose a lot of ground in the meantime, yes.
But matches take so long that it's a matter of being patient. Even if you're knee deep in shit back in your spawn, you'll manage to activate one. Then another. And by the time you activate the third (if you have it) you're already steamrolling the other team, so what's the point.
I've watched some games where more than half the players on a team had one or two legendaries. The math checks out. Getting stomped for a while, and then boom, they're wrecking shit left and right.
The balance for them is not a bad idea by itself, but paired with 20 minute matches, you get a recipe for P2W bullshit.
>>340362367
I feel like adding something more about the currency shit in-game.
The way you farm shards is a neat concept, but they fucked up placing.
Take a look at Heroes of the Storm. One of the very few things they did right: map objectives appear in the middle of the map. They're few in number, focused and when they appear, they draw attention.
This leads to all players making a mad dash over there, and fight over it. It gives a very good reason for one team to engage the other.
Instead of placing shards in one or two places in the middle of the map where teams must constantly engage each other and fight over it, they're scattered in ttiny ammounts all over the map. Often inside your own base or very near it.
This leads to players farming them up on their side, and only going to the frontline once every few minutes. Everyone spreads around the map farming shards, very few times have I ever seen more than 3 players engaging another 3 players together.
It's tiny ideas like this that completely destroyed the game. I won't deny that the underlining idea is solid, and the game could have been fun. Smite changed the MOBA formula slightly and it improved it. I hoped Battleborn would do so too in a new direction.
But they peppered it with so many little retarded things like this that at the end of the day you can't really play it for more than a few minutes before getting bored with it.

>>340364271
kek
Joking aside, that's another problem with Battleborn.
Matches taking too long. It's fine for LoL and Dota because people who play that shit enjoy prolonging a match that they're steamrolling/being steamrolled anyway.
Aka: complete fucking retards.
Overwatch again wins on that regard. Never had a match that went past 10 minutes.
>>340359015
Given the choice to play either of these, I'd go with the left. I can at least make out most of what's going on in it.
