I miss my neckbeard, basement dwelling days playing awesome oldschool MMOs like UO, Tibia, PSO, Runescape, Maplestory, GunBound etc...

Any others that did the same? What do you play now? I have that MMO itch that only a truly great MMO can scratch.
>>
I used to play Tibia and played Guild Wars for 10 years. Those were gold days!
>>
I play Haven & Hearth. It's not as fast as the other MMOs. So I can take my time doing all the stuff, alt tab while I play. I also play some ultima shards.
>>
>>340330013
All MMOs past the WoW moment are shit

Before WoW every MMO was unique and original, had unique mechanics and shit, because of WoW every single MMO is the same shit. A reskin of WoW

Before WoW MMOs weren't about grinding and shitty combat.
>>
Just play OSRS bro.

>visual MMOs which were purely stat and armor grinding games
>not playing superior MUDs which were about interacting with the community and writing the future of the game world yourself
You could also play them at school and teachers didn't know any better
>>
>>340330013
You forgot RO
>>
I don't really like playing MMOs anymore.
Automated marketplaces, automated group finders, automated walking from quest to monster to quest, sharing exp and drops just for hitting a monster once, instanced resources so that everyone can craft everything. The whole experience is so automated that there's literally no reason to ever play with other people or even speak to them.
Even if it was slow and frustrating and inconvenient haivng a bunch of people shouting their deals at player made markets while scammers did anything they could for a quick buck made it feel like the game was actually alive. And player owned businesses where a high level guy would give you fantastic equipment, a sack full of gold, and put you to work. It wasn't as profitable as if you refined the materials or even sold them raw yourself, but it was probably easier than shouting your head off in the competitive marketplace. That kind of gameplay can't exist in a world where you just throw shit up on an auction house.
>>
>>340330685
Nvm, gunbound.ca.
Giving it a try
>>
>>340331718
I tried Black Desert as it was going to be the "best next-gen MMO"

>no trade between players
>auction shop automatically sets the price for your item
>armors that you're wearing don't actually show up on your character unless you pay real money
>press a button and your character will automatically go to the next quest guy
>grind until lvl 50, then pvp
>pvp is pointless because there's no penalty for dying
>people are still defending it

That was when I was sure that MMO genre is dead and I'm never going to play any MMO ever again
>>
I miss picking a new MMO to reverse engineer and subtly hack to do shit that wouldn't break the game or get me banned, but would help other players out or see things in the game that others can't. (Ex: Getting outside of that map)
>>
I miss it guys...
>>
I was lurking for interest but the consensus seems to be there is nothing worth playing?
>>
>>340330457
grinding and shitty combat were the bread that sandwiched the meat of human interaction and douchebaggery

I used to play this one called Dark Isles, which gave you exp for roleplaying. It was automated to so I was /me waveing at every nigger I strutted past.

Hunted foxes in the woods to sell their pelts and eventually grinded enough character points to request to be a mage class. It was fun as shit, and then it just died. I did see the owner on a BDSM dating website and sent her a PM asking if she was ever gonna put the servers back up, but she never responded

MUDs were the shit

God damn Tibia was great. My friend introduced it to me in middle school and we used to do dumb shit like make low level PK characters and kill random retards in the Thais area. It really went to shit once they started trying to make it more like WoW. Cooldowns, mounts, every monster dropping 5 pig anuses. The PoI update era was some of the most fun I've ever had in multiplayer vidya.

I want to see a 5 minute spoof MMO anime where every episode is just the MC and try hard faggots found from a group finder going through dungeons as fast as they can and not talking to each other and actually kicking players if they suck. Only time the players bond is when they insult the developers. The show ends with the player quitting and moving onto a new MMO and starting the same cycle. He starts it by reading guides about the game and the most efficient routes to max level.

>Before WoW MMOs weren't about grinding and shitty combat.
Before WoW, leveling was all about mindless grinding as far as I can remember, WoW quests were actually a breath of fresh air in the sense that you could level up by completing a shitload of dumb storylines involving various tasks instead of only killing shit over and over. And in the case of UO and the like, macro the shit out of skills to level them up.
You exchanged one grind for another, but still.
>>
>>340332168
Just an update on Black Desert:

Gear information is stored client-side. You know what that means, and what is happening because of that.

UO Pre-Trammel/Felucca was pure gaming. Nothing beat being able to hide then stealth into a doorway, trapping people to their deaths or pickpocketing explosives into someone's bag, or dropping trapped chests in town and watching some idiot die a horrible death

UO was -the- game for griefing

Please refresh my memory, which other MMO before WoW did quests like that? and also allowed you to level through them alone and mostly on your own?
I recall other games with quests sure, but not the obscene amount WoW had, or with constant and gradually progressing XP and equipment rewards.

Another detail I recall that I found extremely refreshing from WoW was food/water, cutting downtime after battles considerably.
Last game I played before WoW was L2, there you had to stop for a long while once you were either OOM or at low HP, especially annoying if you ever were solo for whatever reason.
>>
Sounds like a lot of you faggots should be playing EVE.

But you won't, because you are all autists now and will never be able to freely socialize like when you were young. Therefore even sandbox games have nothing for you anymore.

I don't know what you're talking about. Maplestory quests were always "kill 37352 mobs" or get "36252" drops, with the exception of very few jump quests (which had shit rewards) and party quests (which were like only three or four in total back then).

I'm not talking about just having quests, but about quests being central to the leveling process.
I recall UO having a few quests as well, and SWG, but you didn't really level through those, they were more of a novelty or only there for the "special" reward.

>EQ
I played UO when EQ was strong, but I knew a couple of guys who were a lot into it.
Never heard them, or anyone else really, mention "quests" as something they did repeatedly, the thing they always mentioned was finding groups and killing shit in some level-appropriate area until exhaustion.

>PSO
This one is tricky, the XP from the mobs you killed along the way was good, the rewards from completing were shit, for the most part at least.
You ended up spamming TTF over and over anyways, and I'd hardly call that more interesting.

>MU online
