Have you ever cried at a video game?

Yes, when i lost my virginity
Yes, MGS1

Nope, I've cried during movies. But video games still look too uncanny to really developed an emotional attachment.

Bastion.
KH358/2. Fuck, Roxas had a hard life.
>>340323874
It's equally normal to not cry.
Some people just don't express their emotions in that way. It's not "bottling it up", it's not "sociopath", it's just not crying.

It actually has a huge amount to do with it. The expressions in faces has a huge part to do with it. Almost all animated movies and video games are shit at it.
I think I only cried at one animated film, and it was a Pixar one, but they have some of the most talented animators in the world.

Gears of War 3. NOW HEAR ME OUT.
I played through Gears 1 with my brother when I was 13 and we ended up playing through 2 and 3 together as well. By the time we were finishing Gears 3, things were becoming unbearable at home and he was moving out and the finality of Dom dying and what it represented to me hit me pretty hard.

Oh man. I'm tearing up again just thinking about it. Definitely the more emotive ending. And either way, that song that plays regardless of what you do with the actual bastion gets me every time. There's a couple of parts of Transistor that get a similar reaction. God damn it Supergiant.

>>340325510
Yep.
>>340325613
It's very fine line though. Landing perfectly on it through animation is almost never done.
>>340322936
Having to kill this guy. He reminded me so much of my own father, being forced to kill him just dredged up memories of my own dad. The rest of the game didn't have anywhere near as much of an effect on me.

Honestly, it's about suspension of disbelief whether or not you can relate to characters, movies are 'usually' better at making you relate because it's a seemless experience you have no control over
That fine line you talk about also goes for regular movies but with acting, decor etc.
>>340325260
What is Land Before Time? What is the Genie's freedom in Alladin?
You seriously only feel emotional tug for anything 3d real? Littlefoot's mother's death hit much harder than Obi Wan Kenobi 's death in ANH.
As far as OP goes, MGS 3, twice unfortunately. Twice as well with Witcher 3, though it was more happyish tear or two with one of them.
Journey probably has tugged at my emotions more than any other game, though.

I should re-iterate. In the raw translation Ai explains to Mewtwo what death is. She also explains she's already dead and that what he sees is just her memories. It starts when Charmander fades away and she explains he's dying, the other pokes are dying, but they always do.
It was cut out in the American translation because the censors didn't like how she just goes 'Yep, they're dead, I'm dead, but you can live on,' so we got this instead.

Using this trash bait to put this out there:
Feelings are the equivalent of fear.
True curage is facing your fear, not absence of it.
Likewise, recognizing something is sad and experiencing the grief and growing from it is more manly than pretending nothing matters and living an empty life because of arbitrary social norms.
Don't be a whiney bitch but sad shit happens. It's part of life.
Right before MGSV released I played through all of the Metal Gear games alongside my mother, from 1 MGS1 to MGSPW. She'd claimed that video games couldn't tell stories and since I was gonna play them anyway I figured I'd just move into the living room for them.
That was the first time the MGS3 ending actually got to me. I guess it was just that ending on top of my already knowing all the shit Big Boss went through afterwards, and the "inevitable" downward spiral that would be showcased in MGSV. I was getting choked up just thinking about it, but still managed to hold it back for the credits to roll. Although "Way to Fall" certainly didn't help.
This is the reason that I refuse to acknowledge MGSV as anything but a massive disaster. For me, and so many others, it had to be perfect. Not only was it not, but it was a massive "fuck you" to ANYBODY who'd played the series over the years. Keep your buttery smooth gameplay and all that bullshit, playing that game for me is akin to visiting a graveyard.
The Paz section is the only exception, and if the whole game had even half of the effort that completely optional part had, then maybe it wouldn't have been this way.
