I got into the raiden series late.
I never played the first 2 games.
How is pic related? It has 1 and 2 on it apparently. Does it do the arcade versions justice?

It might be Espgaluda 2. I have a difficult time choosing a single favorite.
I have respect for DOJ and all but I don't get how that's practically the only Cave shooter which gets mentioned in general shooter talk context.

I haven't played the newest Raiden but only because I wanted a physical copy, which wasn't released in the west.
Luckily the Jap version is region free. It's on the way in the mail.

It does, but only the danmaku/Cave shooters mostly because LOL ANIME
The more traditional shmups are non-fappable and thus not really /v/'s taste

Ok so I just got done playing Raiden V.
First off yes, it's very good. It won't win any awards because it's a shump, but it deserves at least a nomination.
That being said, can we do away with tradition and open up the whole screen now please?
There is no reason for this genre to continue to close off half the screen just because

What's it like to be good at shmups? I'm awful at video games and have terrible reflexes and precision, so the only way I can beat these games is by slowly figuring out where to move through trial and error. I imagine it must be a totally different experience to be able to play a shmup and dodge bullets with twitch reflexes.

I like Touhou games, GigaWing, 1944: The Loop Master and U.N. Squadron, amongst others.
I own every single PS2 shmup that were released in Europe. Quite a trek to find some of them like "Tengai" and "Dragon Blaze" and "Homura".
R-Type Final is awesome.
XII Stag is the one I played today. XII Stag is not good. They give you unlimited continues. I don't know what they're thinking when they do this. The game isn't even bad but "sir we're gonna release this arcade game on PS2, how should we handle the coin system since there are no coin slots on PS2 sir" "hmm ahh just give them infinite lives!!!" "but sir won't that ruin the game" "game? who? where am I"

mah nigga! I started playing SOQO a few months ago and It's already the third best shmup I've played.
the Special Mode score system is a little broken but is enjoyable and the second loop mode is amazing.
Also, I'm aiming to get the WR, since nobody plays this game.
If there was an argument for the genre with the most quality titles it's this genre right here tbqh

>In short, an advanced civilization built a tower called the Garland System to control human karma, and sacrificed four children at its base. Something went horribly wrong, and during the period of time the game takes place, humanity is eking out a meager living from the few scraps of working technology that still remain from the Garland System. The player characters are members of the multi-international organization Graveyard, which is trying to reclaim the center of the Garland System, now called the Cardinal Shaft. They have been driven back twice by fearsome robots called Prayers, and the game details their third attempt.
