I think people only tend to perceive "Birthright" as the "right" one, if only because Corrin is much more focused and determined, rather than their sort of passive meandering in Conquest or the roller coaster weirdness in Revelations.

They didn't program Chrom and Lissa's promotions into the game(and since it takes place before Awakening it'd be kind of weird anyway) so instead they just scale as a special class and can't really get into too many skirmishes.

Pebble has some great debuffs though. On top of Freddy's habit of obsessively picking up rocks from Awakening, it's a pretty clever thing for the Oifey to give. Something to soften up enemies so somebody else can safely wade in and get the kill.

Pretending FE always had Awakening/Fates tier characters is a flat out lie. Modern FE just uses characters as something to be enjoyed by the player, an archetype with no real history, place in the world and isn't written to realistically be believable as as real person, which is why face rubbing and shit doesn't seem retarded in context. Imagine if face rubbing was in FE4 or even the GBA games. It would seem utterly retarded because those characters are written to be actual characters in the world rather than tropes for the player to enjoy. Did stupid tropey characters exist? Does anyone REALLY care about the setting of Fates? It doesn't seem real because all the characters don't seem like people. Do you think anyone would really care if they tried a FE4 twist in Fates? I never said they didn't talk outside of supports. But they really don't have any interesting interactions that expand on their characters. Most of Sain's are "flirt or talk about girls, and be chivalrous because girls" and most of Kent's are him being a dutiful knight/robot.
And Eliwood doesn't actually change much beyond his feelings with Ninian and his leadership improving I suppose. His personality remains pretty static throughout, with said personality being dry as the paint on your wall. Now if you had said Hector I might agree, but you didn't.
