I'm impressed at how large those hitboxes are, but not all that surprised. The low tick rate was really all you needed to know to know that Blizzard didn't intend the game to be a competitive shooter. The tick rate is completely unacceptable to anyone with any standards when it comes to FPS.
It's not the arrows. It 's the hitzones on the characters.
They have different hitzones for hitscan and projectile weapons.
Just go on the shooting range and try out different characters.
Also try to shoot past walls or objects, you can shoot pretty close past edges.

It's called spray control. You aim at the head then gradually pull down to counter the recoil making the shots go up. It's a skill in fps that doesn't exist in baby games like CoD and Overwatch where recoil doesn't exist and all you have to do is hold down the mouse button to spray :^)

I can understand why they would make the hitbox so large for hanzo's arrow. They probably tested it with a small hitbox and found it was ridiculously hard to shoot accurately with the arrow travel and drop. I think the hitbox is partially justified because otherwise hanzo would be ridiculously underpowered and annoying to play, especially with all the petite heroes like widow and tracer. I'm just pissed off that you can shoot someone behind cover. I'm sure everyone who plays sniper has had to deal with being killed by a hanzo while sniping with cover at some point. I noticed it a lot and always just assumed it was lag and that the arrow hit me while I was peaking, not when I was behind cover. There's not even a point to using cover to your advantage as sniper anymore when a hanzo can just shoot next to the cover and get a headshot. If blizz could make it so the arrow can't hit something behind cover, I would be ok with the large hitbox, but I don't know anything about game development so maybe that's really hard to accomplish.
Also, I'm assuming it's just the hitbox of the arrow that's huge, right? Or is widowmaker's hitbox large as well?

I don't really understand how there can possibly be heated discussion about a shooting game with stuns, wallhacks, and aimbot as core mechanics built in.
It is a casual game for casual players, meant to make them feel special and powerful because they never feel special or powerful in games like CS:GO which require a huge time investment and talent to be good at.

Just so we are clear here, this is why consoles, despite having less than half the install base as PC users in the world (lumping ALL consoles into the console base too and listing people who primarily game on computer as the PC side of that figure) actually buy game at full price far more frequently on average than PC players.
This means more money for developers and publishers up front. Cheating with wall-hacks and aimbots and such are also a shit load harder to accomplish on the console so it makes monitoring the game for offenders a shit load easier and far less time consuming too.
In short, it is against a developer's and a publisher's best interest to every put PC first for games outside of point and click adventure titles, RTS, MOBA, and MMOs.
Everything else sells better on consoles. Racing, fighting, side-scrolling, SCHMUPS, Twin stick shooters, Action RPGs, Japanese RPG, Tactics, and so on and so forth.
They sell better AT FULL PRICE, that is the rub. PC players will eventually catch up and, if the game is good, pass the number of units sold once the game drops in price and goes on sell to something more reasonable.
That isn't maximizing their profits though, so consoles come first. That is just good business sense.
PC players, do you want to stop this from happening? Buy a bunch of games at full retail constantly to catch up.

Hanzo is nowhere near as good as a sniper as she is. He is a slow fire, heavy damage dealer, his sonar arrows help the team out quite a bit, and his ricochet arrows will fuck up a choke point. His ultimate will devastate an enemy team if you pull it off at the right time on a choke point too. Widowmaker is simple put the best sniper in the game, but that is her only big role besides letting everyone see where enemies all.
Hanzo is slightly more versatile in that regard, but you wouldn't know it because most players just try to use him as a sniper and fail miserable because of it.

It's a game where 2 teams are competing against each other to see who has better mastery of the game. Large hitboxes don't make it non-competitive, because a competitive player can easily get used to the size of the hitboxes and adjust his gameplay accordingly.

Nobody cares dude. It's just not a fun game. It's fucking boring. It encourages patiently sitting and waiting for the enemy instead of actively running and gunning. It forces you to rote memorize all these grenade spots. It forces you to rote memorize spray patterns. CS:GO players seem to think rote memorization is what makes a fun game. I actually don't think that they're using two different types of hitboxes. It's more likely that the colliders around projectiles are larger than the projectile itself which leads to a similar effect but would be a lot less effort to program.
