What's the point of playing a videogame if my friends can't see I'm playing it?

I know gog galaxy exists but no one fucking uses it.

Obvious bait aside, GoG goes through the effort of selling their games with patches/fixes so they can actually function on modern hardware.
Stuff like the older Fallouts and Oddworlds won't work unless you get a patch for them.

Granted if you understand how to install patches its not a problem but its still retarded how Valve just sells games that don't work
>>
>>340267516

How are they calling it their own?
They sell the game and apply the fixes (and sometimes makes their own) so make sure the games you buy work.
Please tell me how this is inferior to the way Valve is doing it?

There are DRM free games on Steam and you can just copy them like you said. KSP is one example. Sadly they're the vast minority and you still need the client to download them in the first place.
>>
>>340266823
you guys might as well do this. GOG will be decent competition for valve in a few years and you're going to regret not getting free shit

If only GOG somehow could give steam keys with their purchases I'd buy from them every time.
I don't know how gog haven't worked something out with steam while those shovelware developers who just make rpgmaker games to then give away and make a profit off cards can get thousands of keys for their games
>>
>>340267881
>random stuff put in

They make sure the games work, that's it. If you're so autistic you have to apply the patch yourself and thus prefer Steam DRM over it then you're simply stupid.

Why the fuck would you buy something from GoG but then want to get a Steam key?
You're literally asking for DRM over no DRM.

The games are fine, plus none of them will be hooked into steam apis that prevent them from running without it(yeah, there are some games you can just run right out of the directory, but far more than you can't.)

GoG galaxy isn't special though. Galaxy is an unambitious, undermaintained, very unspecial piece of shit. Use it to update games and nothing else. Maybe not even that.
>>
>>340267704

How does something like Steam still have fanboys?

I could only understand it if they began funding/developing stuff for PC like they did in the past.

GOG walks the extra mile to make things work. Origin/uPlay/Windows Store all have vastly superior customer support and fund their own high-budget games.

Why do some people love Steam so much?

I'll buy games on GoG if they're cheaper, but if it's the same price as Steam then I'll get them on Steam so I don't split up my library more than is neccessary.
I don't like Origin and uPlay since I'd have to run those too to play shit and having games there too would split up my library.

Community, plus resources, plus ease of game management and the largest pool of available games by a fucking ridiculous margin.

I don't use steam for fucking anything but playing my games, but there's actually a lot of functionality in it, that ties together well with the social aspects.

"Making things work" isn't really an issue for modern games, and like it or not, older titles is a much more niche market. It is absolute bullshit how valve just lets assholes fire and forget them on the service without ensuring that they actually run on modern systems though. Valve should be sued for that.

Steam was at least intent on going somewhere. Galaxy, they aren't even foresighted enough to realize people might want/need handles, and not use actual account names as user names.

The team handling galaxy are complete shitters with no ideas, no ambitions, and lazy bastards who took fucking forever to add a basic thing like pausing and resuming file transfers. It's possible it might turn into something neat, yeah. But it's about as likely as hillary clinton soul kissing donald trump on live debate television.

the steam client doesn't track non steam games, its just so you can have the overlay in them.

>>
>>340269636

If the idea is "wah wah my friends have to see me play it!" though, it works for that, and shows what you're playing.

Doesn't have to be from GoG, or even be a game at all. It'll show the playing non-steam-title thing for fucking anything you put in there.

GoG Won their fanbase on having no DRM.

Now they have Galaxy which is Optional DRM.

CDPR Confirmed for moving the goal posts and their Fans still blindly follow them while in denial.

GOG galaxy is pretty shitty. Add a nice overlay (last thing I've seen was a bad overlay that you add as dlc for The Witcher 3), add a browser to that overlay and add fucking cloud save. There is absolutely no point in using Galaxy beyond the more comfortable download (downloading all those individual parts without galaxy is annyoing).
>>
>>340269781
But it's totally optional. That's the point. They're only doing it for Players who want the convenience of Steam.

It's a nice idea, but when you look at what games they're actually offering, you can't really help but chortle.

I think two worlds is only on there because it's on every other bundle/list/package/free shit/giveaway/bdsmfetishprofile/webmdadvice/wikieditwar on the internet, and the devs couldn't handle the idea of it not being given away again somewhere.
