Please recommend me RPGs that have great or otherwise innovative mechanics. Too often I play a new RPG and I feel like the combat and overall structure is just an afterthought because that's what you do to simulate character progression and it's mostly about the story. I want the best RPGs mechanics-wise.

Radiant Historia
I'd like to know too.

Too bad that it's one of the worst anything to handle time traveling in general, leaving it open to plot holes left and right.

Mainline SMT feels like the most mechanical RPGs to me. The story isn't wildly important and most of the game is spent with recruitment, fusion, dungeon traversal, and combat

Pic unrelated I guess
Try Arc Rise Fantasia

It's really hard to make a thread about RPGs without people criticizing whatever I chose for the OP pic. Honestly it was just random.
Bump for OP.

It's not really time travel. It's more like the in-game universe is a book and the main character gets to choose what chapter he wants to go to whenever.

Isn't that the game where half the mechanics are hidden from the player?

You can fuck yourself over if you grind the wrong way.
