Why don't more modern games utilize split screen co-op?
>finally have bigger and wider screens
>don'tmake use of it for multiplayer
Could imagine plent of games that could have had co-op support, including Overwatch. Even Halo has gotten rid of it.
Also, what are some good games with split screen co-op?
console games can barely run single player games. asking them to split the screen without sacrificing a mountain of resolution is too big a task.

Please for the love of god somebody tell me what split screen games they enjoy playing on PC. I have all these controllers and no games to share with friends. I would love to be that guy who brings his beast gaming rig that can display 2 multiplayer games at once and people still have fun
>>340247000
paid online means it's more beneficial to impose online mode and parties rather than bother with splitscreen modes
also players have been conditioned and trained to think it's better after a decade of xbox live parties
>>340247169
nidhogg
gang beasts
mayberocket league
racers in general -- split/second, blur
>>340247169
I don't know any split screen games, but Monaco and Double Dragon Neon are both fun.
>>340247368
Isnt nidhogg and gang beasts not splitscreen, just local co-op?
>>340247592
Fuck it. Local co-op I'll take that. I'll take anything at this point.
>>340247592
you know what i mean -- just games in general that you can play together with a pal
also portal 2 co-op mode and L4D's splitscreen mode (tho it was kinda beta or something)
Because it's both really hard to implement and extremely performance intensive.
>But my PC is powerful enough
Yea but that won't stop others from whining about it being "unoptimized" because their rig can't run it. Better to not bother usually, PC gamers are entitled twats. Like me.
because consoles cant render the game twice
>>340249337
they can if devs stop being graphicsfags on poverty harware. nintendo can still do it.
>>340249673
tell that to the peasants who desperately compare the resolution.framerate between their respective version of the same game
Because they want people to own 1 copy of the game per person.
>>340247000
It died with xbox live, me and my best bud used to play a shit load of coop games. Microshit started phasing them out, then all the other companies realized they could make more with double purchases. It's one of the most annoying things I've had to see happen while growing up.
Othrs have covered good games too.
I love road redemption though

>nintendo has had download play on their handhelds since the DS
>they have all these cool multiplayer games on 3DS with online and local functionality
>they only use the download play for like 10 games and then for the other 95% of the titles, you have to own more than one copy to do local multiplayer
>then they also make some modes local only
Finding friends to play smash run with for 4 players is literally impossible. They should have allowed download play for it, but they're jews. That's why I don't feel bad about pirating all their shit now.vet
Why the fuck do people think it's resource intensive? It's resource intensive if the dev makes splitscreen run another instance of the fucking game rather than another character in the same instance as the first.
It only becomes resource intensive when the dev knows fuck-all about more than one player.
>>340249673
Yeah, but they take big hits.
So big that Pokken has to network two Wii Us together to run properly multiplayer.
>>340250632
I think that's more of a camera angle thing, fighting games dont tend to use split-screen at all and no one wants a fighting game at 30fps
That's what nintendo normally does, cut the framerate. Nintendo normally makes their games 60fps, so cutting the framerate isnt horrible
but cutting framerate of a 30fps game? fuck that shit
>>340250953
Why would a fighting game use split-screen when the combat is 2 people fighting on one little stage?
>>340247000
Sonic racing transformed
>>340251383
Pokken uses a behind the back camera.
>>340247169
Rayman
Gungeon
>>340247169
What makes me scratch my head is why the few PC local multiplayer games don't do "splitscreen" via multimonitor support
everyone can get their own screen
>>340252537
>Gungeon

It's neither hard to implemen, nor hard to optimize. Consoles have done it for ages; they just lower the polygon count in splitscreen.
The real reason? Console gamers got cucked into paying for online, and this is the result. It's been said in the thread before - the people who demand couch multiplayer (and who wouldn't buy the game otherwise) are a tiny minority in comparison to all the drones who will gladly bend over and pay (while convicing their drone friends to do the sane).
