I've donated to channels that I like on YouTube and was found myself super disgusted with one channel's response. They went on about how it's the trending and numbers that are much more important than the actual ad revenue itself (which is funny because that other stuff directly ties to money so...) and in a mix of guilt trip and passive aggressive "gratitude" put me in my place for not just enjoying "free content". It killed me because I know that their channel has a lot of overhead and costs that go into their video, ESPECIALLY when compared to 'recording yourself playing video games and just slapping it on the internet' but I couldn't believe that they went and basically vented their frustration with their system directly at me. Fuck that. I want to show support for what I know is a huge undertaking that can't be supported by limited ad revenue; I don't want to be reminded that *I'M* what's wrong with everything in the first place.
