It used to be good and was doing things other games werent. But now, it's a dated as fuck series and doesn't have that wow factor anymore. Games have just advanced so much that Zelda stayed the same and became more irrelevant. To be honest, I've never been huge fan of Zelda as I get put off cartoon characters and prefer more human driven characters and stories. I think Zelda was exciting when you're a kid, but as you get older it stops appealing to you because you feel like you've played it so many times. The series needs a big change and needs to do something new that other games haven't done yet. I don't know, I don't think Zelda can become as relevant as it was. It's prime is over. I think you've got it backwards. Zelda has constantly been trying to push forward and push the envelope, and in doing so has slowly been losing grasp of the things that made it great.
A game doesn't need to be character and story driven to be good. A game doesn't need to constantly do something new and never seen before to be good, it just needs to be different enough from its predecessors to stand out. The problem is that Zelda is a series that constantly tries too hard to be different from its predecessors, and has been losing sight of the core values that make a Zelda game, not to mention the core values that make a good game.
A Link Between Worlds was a good game. It leaned a bit too heavily on its parent game, ALttP, but it worked out well, though its difficulty and puzzle quantity could have been turned up a notch or two, certainly. TriForce Heroes definitely makes up for the puzzle quantity and difficulty in SPADES, though, and pairs well with ALBW in the same way that Majora's Mask pairs well with OoT, I think, if you consider them to be the same game, but on the opposite side of the coin, and a complete experience when counted together.
A Zelda that revisits its roots and remembers what made the series so great to begin with, but also takes lessons from its recent mistakes and successes both, might very well be a very good Zelda, if done right. I really hope Zelda U is this.

What's the general consensus here on Spirit Tracks? I've been playing it for the past few days and honestly, even though it's a DS title with touch-only controls, I think it's amazing.
