Zacks death in the original was brutal and unsettling. Zack's death in this was bad anime tier. I was expecting this character that grew on me to get mercilessly mag-dumped before my eyes after a momentary lapse of judgement and instead he takes on an entire army before he collapses. Because that's what you do when you want to quietly take down a skeleton in your state's/company's closet that you don't want anyone to know about; you mobilize a fucking army.

I don't think a game has ever made me tear up. Games like Crisis Core and Nier made me feel bad, and the end of Yakuza 3 made me laugh because of how hammy and forced it was.
The Walking Dead ending just left me feeling eh, very forced. Wouldn't even consider it a game to be honest.
Actually Type-0 came close, but again it felt very forced.

Tidus didn't come back because he didn't die, he was always in dream Zanarkand which is near Spira when the game is happening. You can't even know that Tidus existed in the original Zanarkand's time because he grew up in dream Zanarkand, meaning he was a being that was born a dream.

Like I said, the stuff at the farplane is made of life force, proof of that is the unsent who refuse to pass away and keep existing instead of "returning to the planet" not unlike FF7's lifestream concept.
what the fayth could have done is to simply do the reverse and materialize him permanently using his memories.
everything dies and a ton of pyreflies come out of them, which are their memories, feelings and life force. is there anything in this game proving that the reverse is impossible?
even Auron does that a little when he reaches near the farplane in Guadosalam and pyreflies start coming out, so he struggles and steps back to prevent further "damage" to him.
