I think it's the best Uncharted by a long mile.

I had no problem with the pacing either. The long trudging through Madagascar and those islands made it genuinely feel like an adventure.

Uncharted 4 is not a 9 game, it's a banal cinematic corridor shooter filled with QTEs up the ass
>>
I liked U4. One of my favourite franchises.

A nine is a fair score though, maybe a little high. A 10/10 rating should only be reserved for amazing games that come round once every decade.

Don't quite know what I didn't like about this game, just didn't feel as enjoyable as previous Uncharteds and TLoU. Think it was a combination of Sams character not being as likeable as Sully, Elena, Chloe or Cutter even. And the fact the pirate treasure story wasn't as interesting as the previous stories.

Then say something like "some barren landscapes." It's supposed to be a summary that people see for the tl;dr version of the review, so when you say "occasionally lonely" it sounds like there's not much communication to the main character by other characters in the game. They should learn how to properly summarize their points.

it is, though. I know because I recorded most of those webms.

If you are in the middle of doing an animation that moves you (like transitioning to cover or punching someone), enemies will miss like 90% of their shots even from very close range until the animation completes, on any difficulty level

That slow motion webm is even on Crushing, and the guy barely gets hurt at all. You can tell because he only gets to shoot 3 grenades from the China Lake before it is emptied
>>
>>340156594
What I want to know is WHY they get 10/10 from everyone. Like, you'd think that anyone who wanted to make game critiquing their hobby must really fucking love games, right? But in reality everyone I know who really loves games finds the triple A roller coaster ride games to be insipid and boring, yet reviewers seem to gobble that shit up.Good graphics? The sheer fact that Naughty Dog answered the narrative dissonance criticism by making the combat encounters "cause-and-effect" and completely bypassable until self defense is warranted makes it a 10/10. They didn't have to do that. They couldn't just bombarded action for no reason, but they did. They made a genuine sequel that built on the past entries. And thanks to the episodic nature of prior games and the retconning in 4, the way those games panned out and whether Drake killed a bunch of people first before being provoked is entirely up in the air. There are no strict allusions, so they might as well have not happened EXACTLY as played inthe games.

Then, there's the gameplay and how they've nailed the adventure feel by levels being open-ended and playing the metagame of finding the bonus treasures more fun than ever with your partners realistically talking and reacting with you and the optional dialogue moments. That moment where you're exploring Libertalia and you pull up to a random chair with Sam and ASK him questions about how they're lives could've ended up differently touched me because I was asking him those questions, I was with Sam this whole time and I grew to love him. It was magical.

is the only reason people are flipping their shit over any non-10/10 scores because its PS4 exclusive? like nintendo faggots do the same with any zelda game or mario game not getting 10s?

>>340159682
This is true, 3 was pretty great first playthrough bevause the story was still a mystery and I was excited what Talbot's supernatural revelation would be (fucking hell ND) and the set peices were amazing. It ended when I thought I still had 20% of the game left and was a unsatifying ending, but I was pretty happy with it.

But on replaying (I've done it 6 times for some weird reason, despite really disliking the game) more and more flaws become apparent. It's ND's worst game (post Ps1, bevause technically they made games before that) and 6/10 is being generous.

4 I've only played twice, but it stands up much better. Story makes sense, the goal of the game (Libatalia) is given over a quarter of the game to be fully fleshed out (as opposed to 1 chapter before blowing it up) and I noticed a bunch of stuff on my second playthrough that impressed me, like alternate climbing routes or cool contextual dialouge from enemies. Unlike 3 where I noticed flaws after flaws, such as the secret entrance that collapses in the Chatau wouldn't have led anywhere if it hadn't collapsed, there was no secret there, Drakes falls, gets out the other side and finds the hidden stuff on the other side of level.

2 will remain the untouched champ of this genre of game, I could replay it endlessly and it's truly magnificent example of how to pace a game, something 1, 3 and 4 all fucked up (4 is good movie pacing, not game, other two just have pacing issues from any perspective)

I disagree completely. 3 is far superior and more memorable than 2 to me because I liked the development they gave to Drake and his relationship with Sully. I liked how everybody came together and it was an ensemble hanging out with Chloe, Elena, and Charlie. I liked the early foreshadowed complications being put on Drake and Elena's relationship, I loved the melee feel i 3, I loved the grenade tossback, I loved the setpieces, and I stand to this fucking day that this scene was the one of the single most heart-poundingly epic things in all of games. This moment where after the plane crash, after the soul-searching in the desert, you rush to save Sully from Marlowe's convoy

I was 18 when normies invaded my "nerdy" and "childish" hobby. They turned it into what gaming is today.

In a few years a next generation under them will takeover. Developer will cater to that generation just like they did when my generation was consider too old for gaming.

Question: What will be the next trend, do you think we'll go back to the older style games or will we continue do this road where games now play themselves and are more movies than actual games?

Film has its own problems (big ones too), but it has always had a bit of prestiege to it, there's multiple layers of film critism and lots of scholarly work done in film theory and stuff that goes alongside the regular "it's good" reviews in tabloid newspapers and recently Internet. Films are also seen as important, and efforts are made to preserve and honour them. Archives and preservation projects are seen as important and done for passion, not money. Great directors are well known and celebrated by nearly everyone in the industry.

Unfortunately games has no greater level of critism and analysis, IGN and similar is as high as it goes, it's all there is. The scholars and actual analysislists have been replaced with YouTube personality's. Some good stuff exists, but there's' no books written, no real recognition or unified respect. The low-tier critiquers are the most known and most respected.

And games arnt treated with much respect, modern gaming is increasingly hard to preserve, patches, DLC, DRM, always online, it's a shelf-life, combined with no one is really doing it except for emulation purposes which is not 100% legal.

Plus, no one knows famous game creators. Every film journalist knows Hitchcock, Kubric, and other famous directors and what they did, and many know at least some less mainstream stuff like Goddard or whatever. They likely studied them, did lame group projects at uni about a particular genre or auteur.

Tell me, how much does the average IGN writer know about influential game devs and what they contributed to the medium?
>>
So how is this game near perfect that it deserves even a 9?

What it did that every other story based shooter didn't do?

The story can't be that great because even shit tier hollywood movies manages to be better and more interesting than the plot in 95% games.

And that's where you're wrong. Video game journalists do have prestige. There are plenty of scholarly works done for creators and portfolios in the industry. Look at Colin Moriarty's write-up of Naughty Dog. Look at some of Jeremy Parish's work.

What's the difference between the pretentiousness /v/ claims of video game journalists and film theory? The fact that you had to take film theory in school or something?

http://www.davidbordwell.net/blog/

vs

http://americanart.si.edu/exhibitions/archive/2012/games/
Also, directors aren't something that's known too often in games because of how the industry works. Games are far more expensive to make and the auteur theory isn't as prevalent.

I thoroughly disagree with you

Pro's
> Development with Sully's backstory was pretty cool, but nothing mind-blowing, it didn't change our perception of the characters, just solidified it (probably a good thing).
> Cutter is a 10/10 character
> Planecrash to desert to chase was pretty cool, but they have gone too far (even ND admitted this) with 5 minutes of pushing the left stick forward while listening to poetry.
> Some of the puzzles were pretty cool.

Con's
> Gunplay was fucked, aiming much less presice than 2 (fixed in Ps4 version)
> Nate and Elena are broken up (again), except this time they were engaged. This would be fine, except they went through this story last game (without engagement part) and resolved it. Lazy and uninspired.
> Nate acting out of character, he was the first the give up to protect himself and friends from danger in 1&2, but now he drags them along. Entire premise of the story is contrived as fuck.
> Last section of the story is neutered, supernatural vase destroyed before it can be opened. Doesn't even make sense why Marlowe would want drug water, they already have more powerful drugs (actual mind control vs hallucengeons)
> Talbot survives a gunshot to the chest, and vanishes into thin air, always looks like there's more going on with him. Spoiler: there isn't.
> Cutter and Chloe vanish after Syria (so your ensamble comment isn't true) never to be heard from again. Not even the ending. Made worse by not appearing in 4. Cutters final words in the series are moaning about his leg.
> melee combat is fucked, changes your movement when in melee combat so buttons do different stuff (roll becomes shove), feels awful if you didn't intend to fistfight and just want to roll away and shoot them
> at least 4 forced melee section
> Pacing is ass-backwards: slow setup, pointless nautical detour, rushed ending with no pay off
> No bonus cheats, weapon unlocks, or skins (ps4 version added all the multiplayer ones in)

This is what people think is a good game.

As you can clearly see, the game lack any form of combat depth what so ever. But people love this shit for some reason.

And the same can be said for Uncharted.

it's far better than modern video game criticism.

anyone can be a critic nowadays. A review is worth as much as the reviewer's reputation. Are there any reputable reviewers left in the video game journalism?

I don't know m8, I'm at something like chapter 14 and I'm doing fine so far

I really do appreciate how the AI is smarter now though - enemies move more tactically, and don't constantly miss you when you come out of cover

It's not a perfect game though, or genre defining. It definitely is a culmination of the strenghts of the action genre, which makes it a 9.

But it's just like my favorite capekino THE DARK KNIGHT. Amazing, just like Hollywood, can't tell the difference, 9.8/10.

No, Infinite is just not fucking fun. One of the only if not only game I got bored of that quickly.
>>
>>340164473
It's a dumb overlong unoriginal action chase scene over the span of 2 hours akin to Transformers. A nonstop barrage of repugnant noise.

>push the stick and press a button to make cool action hero do awesome judo move or crazy stunt

You're describing how basically every action game ever made works you faggot

How else do you want your judo moves executed? Do you want it so the player must do a complicated fighting-game-style button combo to do a melee attack?

I've only played uncharted 2's beta and almost all of uncharted 3 but I simply had to drop it. I couldn't fucking stand playing that heap of trash anymore. It's as linear as possible, the parkour is completely automated and you're never really in a position of true danger. For example, in the beta of uncharted 2 I remember a time when you had to jump out of a metal board that was supposedly about to fall and when you do jump from it, it ends up falling in the ground not a split second after. However, if you keep hanging on it, nothing fucking happens because you aren't in any real situation of danger.

I can really understand why people with no discernible taste like this game because it's a never ending stream of sheer deception. Naughty Dog gives you the illusion that you are in control, that you have choices, that the michael bay tier explosion on your knee can actually hurt you but everything is scripted, everything is automated and you'll always be where they want you to be. This is why when people say this trash is a movie I couldn't agree more because of how utterly stiff it feels, specially when you consider the game is a fucking cakewalk that is filled to the brim with unnecessary QTEs and cutscenes.

But hey, it has cute gwaphics and that's all that matters in this day and age. Even those cocksucking marketers at neogaf show a huge case of double standards when talking about games because they always go out their way to bash QTEs in anything, SPECIALLY Tomb Raider (gee, I wonder why), even though it's much more of a game than Uncharted could ever dream of being, but hey, when it comes to naughty shit games then QTEs are Awesome™.

There is just so much hypocrisy and bias when it comes to Uncharted reviews and discussions that it baffles me. As it is, it stands as a bold monument reminding me why this industry will never be taken seriously no matter what, no matter how much money is involved.
