On this day, 10 years ago, a player named Durial321 discovered an exploit in which he could attack players in a non-pvp area, and they couldn't fight back. Thus he murdered many people, and was banned for it.
The runescape admins are remembering that day through a special event in which "Durial321" returns for round 2.
The song is because the original video documenting the event had Nightwish - Planet Hell playing over it.
Why does Runescape have so much staying power?
By all rights it's practically irrelevant at this point yet it's still here.

To add on to this, Durial wasn't the only one, but he's the most known by far. He was able to Player kill two party hats (one he didn't pick up and the other being the well known Green party hat). For those who don't know party hats were one of the rarest, expensive items in game. Later on Jagex mods disconnected him, he logs back on to see he can't kill anyone, quickly trades away the party hat to a friend who scams it from him later, and Durial gets banned. The end.

Both versions offer something that people interested in the game would like. If you like PvE and questing then the newer version is better, but if you're craving better PvP then OSRS is good.
The game in general is rather accessible despite the grind. It's like a Mabinogi that aged like an okay-ish wine instead of aging like milk.
