I watched a stream of it and felt like throwing up. The combat looks atrocious and it seems to play exactly like EU IV.
I think I'll be sticking to 3 and those delicious OOBs.

So I know how to play HoI3 and have clocked 100+ hours in it. I haven't followed the dev updates for 4. Should I stick to 3 or does this look to be better?

I do still enjoy DH though and play it about as much as I do 3. They both excell and fall short in different areas.
What IV should have been is a combination of the best parts of those two, not this trash that we are getting.

Might pirate it, but definitely wouldn't buy it, just like with Stellaris or other games from modern Paradox, in about a years time and after 60 DLC then it will be in a "playable" state

There's no point in a strategy game if isn't grounded in some semblance of reality, sandbox or no. There's a difference between being able to take a country along an ahistorical path, with different allies, ideologies, and goals, and being able to steamroll a bunch of people who ought to be bigger and stronger than you just because you want to.
I assure that this same feat wouldn't be possible in HoI3. It's a step down from that because things have gone from "Make your own history" to "Do whatever you want, have fun".
I watched quill18 and DDRJake streams and it seems like the AI needs a lot of work. The game has so much complexity but little of it seems to matter on singleplayer, you can choose options at random and still sweep across the AI without really planning any strategy or tactics
