I gotta say, I enjoyed the main story, but I feel like the side quests were a lot more enjoyable.
I liked taking Geralt on a knight adventure, and helping bird girl. The spoon story is probably top 3 among the most heart warming tales they've done.
Overall, I think it's equally on par with HoS if not for sheer amount of content.

The guards initially bar Syanna from approaching and the duchess gives them a look that says not to interfere. Along with Anna simply denying what Geralt says, they're making it clear she will insist on letting Syanna come to her and not let anyone stop it.
Incidentally, if you get the shittiest ending where Geralt goes to prison, it ends with Anna being read the letter proving Syanna wanted to kill her, and she just freaks out and denies it. The point is that Anna will never believe the worst about her sister no matter what, and she suffers for that if you don't make Syanna realize she can be forgiving too.
