References. Orphan is the better boss but people shit themselves because he's that guy who's contantly talked about pre-DLC, as well as MLGS being in the fight.
It's like people thinking Artorias or Alonne are the best bosses of the other DLCs, and trust me when I say that if Ocelotte, Gertrude, Kaathe or anyone else makes it to the DLC for 3 there will be a better boss that people won't consider as good.

To answer the question, he's the harder DLC boss, but that's because Failures are pathetic, Ludwig gets easier in his second phase and Maria can be stunlocked. After some practice you are able to beat Orphan, the problem is that his hitboxes are unexpected.

Orphan of Kos is objectively better. There isn't a single boss in any game that is more fun. It's difficult but it's a purely fair difficult. The Orphan isn't a random roll of the dice, he forces you to make mistakes and punishes you harshly. His damage is high and he has rapid attacjs but he doesn't cheaply one shot you. He gets you because he has so many different tools in his belt and none of them have a particularly large wind up so its hard to tell what he's going to come at you with. The lore is also betterat least what I made up about Gehrman knocking up Kos and Maria killing herself due to her mentor fraternizing with the perceived enemy. The hunters nightmare is hosted by Gehrman highlighting his shame and Orphan Is what he is most ashamed of.Ludwig is amazing and that part was s shocker but it's just that Orphan is literally the greatest of all time
