Depends where they land. Somewhere remote, they could probably build up a pretty sizable force before meeting any resistance and would likely be able to do some significant damage by the time they did.

Nothing is really wrong with Brutal Doom. It adds mechanics like headshots and enemies crawling on ceilings that add more reasons to use mouse aiming. Executions are optional and flipping enemies off makes them aggressive and harder to kill. Sounds of guns are pretty annoying, though.

Portal to hell opens up in Central Park- Manhattan, NYC becomes demon infested hellhole, sealed off from the rest of the country, bridges blown.
Scientists develop some advanced tech that can shut the portal down but it needs to be in the vicinity of the portal to work, and it needs constant adjustement and tuning while active, it needs human input.
So the military which has amassed in Brooklyn, gets to work. Marines storm ashore to clear the area and secure a beachhead, Army gets to work laying down a bridge, then a massive convoy of tanks and IFV's crosses into Manhattan with the science vehicle containing the portal disruptor and the scientist who knows how to use it.
Huge fight through the city, demons tough to kill, some are busy fighting each other instead of the humans, but anyways after a bunch of detours and ambushes the demon portal is in sight and its at this point that the demons in the city all start to converge on the convoy and its the hardest part of the game, but if you succeed in keeping the scientist alive and his device, the portal closes and you have a limited time to escape back across the makeshift bridge before a nuke drops down right at the center of the park.

All other shortcomings aside, what put me off most of the game was the sameyness of all the areas.
Sure, it was supposed to be set inside the subway of London, but why not make it all different kinds of hell? One ice based, one fire/lava based, one toxic, one plant based, etc.
