How is it a gimmick if it's a legit gameplay mechanic?
Factually, there is no better motion controller than the Wiimote+ because it has perfect 1:1 control. It's not tied to a single point or made up of a silly relativity detector like the Conker camera.
3D has potential to be good as some games can attest, but it's just too difficult. Developers these days are too amateur to come up with good ideas. It's not Nintendo's fault.
And the Wii U controller? You must be trolling or stupid if you don't see the potential.

Name a non-Nintendo gimmick that came as a detriment to the core system (besides the Xbone). Sony, Valve, pre-Xbone Microsoft, none of them had gimmicks that fucked with the core system. Then you have the Wii, WiiU, and 3DS. Wii had shit hardware because casual wagglan. WiiU has shit hardware because shit tablet. 3DS has shit resolution and shit hardware because 3D.
Microsoft has seemingly learned that fucking lesson with the Xbone. They sunk so much into the Kinect 2.0 that their hardware suffered and now the PS4 is eating Xboxes lunch while fucking Xboxes wife.

Things that "aren't" needed for gameplay. For the past 10+ years, no one wants gameplay that felt tacked on compared to what made games work from it's incpection, the fucking gamepad. There's a reason why that fucking device existed since Atari days (Joystick even for arcade machinces) and people can still use them universally for gaming. "Inavation" only works at it's best when it was "NEEDED". Like for the Wiimote (at the time), since it was a better way to experince gameplay based on phyical body motion to make for a unique experince. But as time when, people got bored of it, and wanted to go back to the classics. This is when Neotindo began, with gimmick upon gimmick for their hardware to ride on the moneymaker that was the Wii's success. But again, people don't fucking want anymore gimmicks, it's been forced down our throats for too long.
