What game is this OP?
>>
>>340062341
Subnautica
Basically your huge ship crashes in an ocean world, you escape via small pod with essentials and you explore/build your base deep underwater

Have to explore deeper to get better materials and you can build vehicles to help you.
>>
>All that shit sent to probe outer space
>When we still discover new shit in our own ponds.
>>
Will this game eventually have a goal or is it a minecraft without the ability to build anything you want?

Have you tried to go in the lava castle area and spawn the Sea Dragon, anon? It really make you realize how pant-shitting the whole thing will be when you'll be down there with your tiny exosuit against a Kaiju breathing fire underwater.

If I have one dislike however, it's that the Sea Dragon and the Sea Leviathan have the same bodytype, I think the Sea Dragon would've worked better as a gigantic crocodile able to walk on land.
>>
>>340062839
Studying space doesn't magically take funds away from studying the seas. People just don't care too much about discovering mollusk species #90732.

There's a sizable amount of content available, the main issue is just the lack of any real goal. There should be a pretty major gameplay/story update this month so it's probably worth waiting until then.
>>
>>340063172
About 10-15 hours of content.

It's got good replayability though. I've got it more than a year ago and I have about 60 hours in it, I just play it a while, drop it for a few months, then pick it up, start a new game and enjoy the new content.
>>
>>340063172
No, not because of the ammount of content, but because the world is static. You can only explore the map once, and if you do it before the game is finished, you will probably be burnt out by the time it comes out.
I bought it, but now I dont play itmbecause I really want to wait for all of the features and details to be fuly realized.

Is it time for a le epin deep sea spoopy thread?
>>
>>340063016
Agreed.

Giant leviathans are cool and all, but change it up a bit, have it be a 4/6 legged ocean/volcanic floor walker/swimmer to make it different.

Then have the emperor be this gargantuan demigod-like entity on its own.

Still hoping/fearing that they will add a leviathan cephalopod type down the pipe.
Giant sea monsters are scary and all, but they lose a lot of that factor when they have man-like features like arms and shit.
>>
This looks cool as fuck. Is there multiplayer?
>>
>>340063172
yeah, it's worth it

lots of deep spooky places to explore, and it's always getting updates

also they're almost done with the new biome

So its Ark, but in the ocean.
>>
>>340064085

>>
>>340060950
For some reason the big sea monsters of this game aren't scary to me. Maybe because they're revealed so casually. The developers need to stop revealing all of these creatures and allow players to discover them instead.

this has been my biggest complaints with games in general...

Remember when youd go into MMO's even to do a boss or dungeon and there wasnt a guide that was out WEEKS before the thing became available?

Or not having a wiki that showed EVERY monster/item in the game a month before the
game is out?

I miss discovering shit on my own and not having everyone in the world know2rewqf4...
>>
The Sea Emperor needs to be bigger.
Like, "mindfuckingly huge" size.
>>
What is it about sea monsters that freaks me the fuck out? Any variety of monster on land doesn't have nearly the same effect.
>>
>>340060950
There's nothing irrational about that fear, sport. The ocean isn't safe for human life.

He's supposed to be around twice as big as the Sea Dragon, which is about four times as big as your Cyclops.
>>

For me it's the fact that I'm more vulnerable while in water, since there is isn't anything around that I can use to protect my ass and I'm a shitty swimmer.
If a giant snake tried to eat me while on land, at least there are things I could do to survive.
If a giant snake troed to eat me while swimming on the ocean, I'm fucked.

Yes. And it was great. I'm of the opinion that some things should be revealed, but not everything. That's the failure of open world survival games that are early access. These types of games will forever be tainted thanks to that model.
>>
>>340067941

you get a bunch of modules and furniture and tech and you make a base out of it

the idea is to build a main base to build higher tech tools and also build outposts around the area for exploring

it fits well in with the survival part because you feel really exposed without a comfy base to live in

What type of sea monsters are scariest to you?
Fish, aquatic mammals, arthropods, cephalopods, serpents, or something else entirely?

What personality of the monster is scariest to you?
Territorial, passive, aggressive, stalking hunter, ambush Hunter, etc.

What size is scariest to you?
Small but powerful enough to take out a single human with ease, large as a ship, lage enough to eat a ship, incredibly large but still comprehensible, or immeasurably large?

That's the kind of shit I can imagine VR being good for. Current VR is being wasted on motion-control gimmicks that will fade away without leaving a mark on the industry. We need this shit for atmosphere and to make use of depth perception, peripheral vision, and 3d audio. Keep current control schemes, nobody really wants to move around in the vidya for any longer than a few minutes, but proper VR visuals is something that can have a future both casuals and enthusiasts can appreciate.

My biggest fear is being swallow alive by something big enough to just inhale everything it comes across.

It wouldn't even be going after you specifically, so you wouldn't even be prey. You'd be a collateral snack. It doesn't even acknowledge your existence other than spare nutrients. You suffer in the dark, alone in its bowels with no hope of rescue or escape, until you either drown, starve, or are digested. Most likely a combination of both.

I'm so fucking glad we're out of the food chain.

If you think the Vive's controllers are motion control gimmicks, I don't know what to tell you. Shit's multiple orders of magnitude more responsive and accurate than a Wiimote or Move controller - in fact, I don't even think they're comparable. Hand presence puts the Vive leagues ahead of the Rift in terms of pure experience.

Regardless, I do think that VR developers need to make use of what the technology offers, instead of just remaking something that doesn't really need to be in VR other than for novelty's sake. Which, in these early stages, is gonna be what moves units (see Minecraft on GearVR), but we need to go beyond that.

Perhipheral vision is a ways off yet (we need about double the FOV most headsets already have, save for StarVR, but they're not gonna go far).

The thing about putting games like Subnautica in VR is that they'd probably give a lot of people simulator sickness - most first-person games that don't have cockpits will make most people sick when the character rotates without the actual player rotating with them.

That's a load of shit.
Think about it.

There are billions upon billions of other planets out there. Some of them have oceans of their own.

You're saying that we know more about billions of alien oceans than just one ocean on Earth?

That's a sack of shit.

Furthermore, the ocean is a lot more homogenous than you think.
We're used to thinking on land based terms. A thousand miles is a huge distance.
But in the ocean, a single organism may travel that distance and never notice.
Combine that with the fact that the deeper you go, the more devoid of nutrients you get, it means that the ocean becomes a desert as you lose the light. Things live in the Sahara, but not very many.

Stop being so emotional.
Life needs energy.
The sun is the primary source of that energy.
As you get further away from the sun, the less energy there is for life to consume.
The deeper you go, the smaller and more pathetic things get, with a few exceptions.

The bottom of the sea just has so little energy that it can sustain only a few animals.

It's just a matter of limited resources. It's scary and dark, but that doesn't mean there are boogymen.

This is a humboldt squid. It grows as big as a man or bigger.
It's an active predator whose suckers have hooks.

It is also extremely aggressive and will attack anything that it does not recognize. Divers have been attacked on multiple occasions and so have fishermen.

The locals call them "red devils" as they turn red when angered.

There's no need to make up monsters in the deep. They already exist.

Bigger things traverse more area. That only reinforces what I've said. They need to be bigger in order to cover more ground in order to scrape together enough food.

They're generally very slow and sluggish and come up from the deep to eat.

The squids sound like an exception but that's because they're not truly a deep sea animal.
They range up and down the water column as an active hunter.
>>
>>340074495
But you said that the deeper you get, the smaller and more pathetic things living there get.
>>
>>340073102
It is overblown.

But they also report things like shootings happening near schools as school shootings. Because it's more sensational, and plays to the narrative that way.

Same way the statistic "Gun Deaths" includes suicides and police shootings.

The fact that we're at the top of the food chain is the reason why he's able to sit around making pretentious blogposts like this. If we didn't have lethal weapons, we'd still be sleeping in trees in fear of predators and almost certainly dying in the mouth of one, instead of comfortably in a hospital bed.

It'd be less of a problem if the creatures in this game were all defensively aggressive, only attacking if you messed with them. But no, you have active predators in this game that preemptively attack you for no reason, most of them several times you size. All are armed with weapons of their own; teeth, claws, and even bullshit biological lightning and shit. Why exactly is it a sin to defend yourself with lethal force in such a hostile environment?

The stun gun in this game is next to useless atm. The only way to avoid danger is either not to explore (which is stupid since it's an exploration-based game), to hide and wait until the monster goes away (which doesn't work all the time since some monsters patrol areas), or hide in your ship that can barely tank 3 hits from the larger monsters.

It's a design choice that goes against the fidelity of the gameplay, and only exists because a dev thinks he's delivering a message. Nobody fucking cares. Why push anti-gun opinions in a sci-fi undersea adventure game of all things?
