It's not like SMT, it's not like Fire Emblem, and it certainly doesn't have any of the charm or style of Persona. Top it all off with an obnoxious idol aesthetic and a hilarious amount of censorship and the game is left in a spot where I genuinely don't know who it appeals to.

If the unique identity had any style, flair, or interesting aesthetics that would be great. But from everything I've seen thus far it doesn't. It's pulling random bits out of Persona and Fire Emblem, wrapping it in an obnoxious idol aesthetic which has been done better, and eliminating any fanservice most fans of this kind of weeb game go for.
On top of that the gameplay looks pretty basic, the graphics have a washed out look, and the shit it's taking from, Fire Emblem specifically, feels thrown in for no reason. If I were to judge it on it's own it'd look boring. But since it takes from other games which basically eliminates its ability to stand on its own it's hard to do that.

I don't agree with the part about idol aesthetics. Games like im@s or Love Live have repulsive bottom of the barrel anime aesthetic. This game, on the other hand, is stylish enough on its own and not really comparable to any other JRPGs. Every import review I've seen agrees on that.

I'm not really excited about idorus being a main plot element. I also really hate that synchronized cheering that happens at idol concerts, it's super annoying, so hoping that does not find it's way in the game.

Regardless, I disagree about the style. Like I said, the general graphics/art style looks washed out, the characters look like some of the most generic JRPG protagonists, the combat doesn't particularly stand out in any unique fashion, and from what little I've seen relayed through trailers on the plot it seems like your basic evil shit. Nep is a turn based RPG with buffs and debuffs, positional attacks, formation attacks, a global meter which builds up and unlocks more powerful forms, cancelling those forms to use powerful finishing attacks and a whole bunch of other stuff.
