The Wii U Pro Controller is better, the triggers are much better for games like Smash (where you require a quicker input). It's just that most people have been using the Gamecube controller for 15 years and its hard to overcome muscle memory.

You can play Smash with the DK Bongos by plugging it into the GC adapter. It has A, B, X and Y buttons and the microphone acts as the R button. The only problem is that there's no way to use the analogue stick so your moveset is very limited.

At nationals wireless controllers are banned, though Pro Controllers with no batteries are ok (they can get power from USB,dont have to worry about re-syncing) and exceptions can be made for well known players who use wireless controllers like Scatt or Blacktwins since they can be trusted.
At a local level nobody gives a shit, anyone can use anything.
