I've played it for quite awhile and then ditched, it seems like it has a lot of really rich content. But I find the combat super boring, even on Death March, anything I'm missing?

Not really. Swordplay is go for criticals, time parries, don't over-extend.
The only variety in combat is which Sign is best for which kind of encounter.
Pro-tip: Invest in Aard, knock humanoid enemies down, then execute them on the ground.

I JUST figured this out myself. Sidestep + heavy hit is pretty much the only viable way to fight, its so strange.
But whatever, I didn't go in expecting good combat. I slogged through Witcher 2 on easy mode because I was only interested in the story and dialogue.
