I've just started a Morrowind playthrough in OpenMW without all the fancy options and mods of Overhaul and holy shit the stamina drain is massive. Is it a bug in OMW or is the Overhaul touching it up a bit? I haven't played vanilla MW in like a decade.

Yes it's fucking awful
The game basically expects you to min max in order to get stronger, which means that you need to level skills that aren't your major or minor skills in order to get attribute increases, meaning that you're spending most of the game leveling skills that you don't use in order to get stronger
This isn't even including the awful looting system, where random bandits in the middle of bumfuck nowhere run around in rare, high quality glass armor if you're a high enough level and all of the loot is shit and becomes irrelevant after leveling up enough because it's also scaled to your level
