Zelda is a much older princess/queen who leaves her kingdom to seek out the legendary hero who is still just ababy.
In order to protect Link, she must bring him with her on her journey, through danger and dungeons.
Think Yoshi's Island except Link isn't a crying piece of shit.
Hopefully the open world will be full of secrets to find, where people will either bribe you to keep their hiding place a secret or force you to pay to fix their front door you just blew up.

I want her to do something different than being in exile to marshal forward the forces to beat a great evil that's, all things considered, already won.
Beyond that I'm pretty much open to anything.
-Zelda ranting like a madman about some nonsense invisible monster no one else can see, and having Castle Town change periodically between hanging out week-old rotting pumpkins, to parading holy relics around, to hiring dozens of boys to wear green and play various instruments in hopes to to drive them away. Only for the game to prove her madness right.
-Zelda styling herself a hero herself and running off to try to beat Link to the temple bosses.
-Zelda standing as a reigning monarch that's perpetually distracted with the minutia around negotiating a trade agreement with a neighboring nation, and the plot arising when that monarch goes missing after a monster attack.

What if there was a trap where a sneaky thief left a sheikah stone inside their treasure cove, and saw Link enter and steal their stuff. Speaking through the stone, they tell you that they saw what you did and threatens to come after you.
Now you have this mysterious assassin hunting you while you're just out and about.

What if Zelda was trying to keep Link out of the temples? Say Link is called upon to visit the temples to get their power in order to fight Ganon. But Zelda sees Link as someone "stealing" the temple's power. So she actively works against him.

I think there's a good chance this next Zelda will be the "Valley of the Flood" game. I'm seeing a bunch of hints towards this...

They could totally pull that off. Make Ganon a sympathetic character, who fights against his curse of hatred, but ultimately succumbs.
Zelda will be strong and empowered in this game.
In fact, Link will try to save her at one point at which point Zelda will get insulted and remind Link that she can handle herself just fine.
She will also be more affectionate towards Epona than Link. Basically ignoring Link.
