Has to be more prolific than a temporary cutscene or a moment where you're encouraged to do a particular act. Additionally certain types of games are exempt from being criticised for handholding (Like vns or linear games)

When a game treats the player like an absolute idiot.
The best and most aggravating example is Ni no Kuni, where your comic relief partner will force you through a tutorial basically every time you have to cast a spell. Or talk to an npc. Or solve a puzzle.
He will never shut up and talk slowly, bolding and underlining the "important parts" of his speak. Hearing him, 40 hours in, explaining to me how I was supposed to fix an npc's problem (a basic mechanic of the game introduced like 10 minutes in) was beyond bizarre.
