"more strategic" generally means longer/stacking buffs and not really strategic, neither game has amazing combat but earthbound has more of a resouce management element because of the limited invntories

I have to disagree. Earthbound is a wonderful game, but you all suffer highly from nostalgia in this argument. Both are completely different from one another in regards of story telling and design so I don't know it's fair to say one is better than the other, but I'm much more fond of the style of story telling mother 3 has over Earthbounds because they let you understand all the characters as separate characters in the story rather than assets for the main character.

The issue comes more from the prejudice from the image others convey of themselves on the internet, and realizing that in order for your opinion to matter you need to stay in the grounds of popular culture of the group you associate yourself with.
