Got EOU1 on sale. What should my team be? I was leaning for more of a general utility layout, with either a landshark or a ronin plus an alchemist doing the general DPS, with the requisite protector and another unit running general support to keep everyone in fighting form, plus one other unit doing buffs or debuffs, but I'm open to more adventurous and experimental builds.

EOU a strange beast. I played the other games but I had to learn new annoying shit for this one.

Things I learned the hard way

Completing story mode lets you carry over the unique classes/character progress to Classic mode. That's how you get gunner/highlander.

There's options to take leveled characters and turn them into a different class. The best thing this does is that the character will retain the stat growth rate of its original class. E.G. An Alchemist reclassed to Dark Hunter will produce a Dark Hunter who gains stats like an Alchemist. Potentially useful if you can figure out which class benefits the most.

Like most Etrian games, binds are incredibly powerful. Plus you need slaves to get those sweet conditional drops.

Troubadour's healing is passive unlike the medic which heals for free but does little else. healing with a troubador can suck a little. Troub's dont learn a revive skill so you gotta grimoire it or run with someone who can, like a survivalist. Sadly the troubador doesn't work too well with other classes who buff themselves. For example.

A character in EOU can only have three buffs at a time. E.G. A ronin buffs itself with Upper Stance. Your dancer buffs with Warrior Song, then your protector buffs with Defender. Your Dancer then buffs with Echoing Rondo for healing. Your ronin will have their Upper Stance buff pushed off, thus it cannot use its stance skills. Which fucking sucks.

Troubadors have a skill called Holy Gift which is fucking broken. It stacks with itself so if you have 5 people with grimoires of holy gift you will have so much fucking exp it's not even funny.

Analysis is fuckign BROKEN on an alchemist. Seriously. Analysis + Warrior Song on some poor fuck's weakness is like, triple the damage. I've got more but I dunno if you wanna hear it. Im just bitching cause i'm like 60% through and my ronin is looking to get replaced :*(

For EO, start with EO4
It has a simple class system with subclassing, smaller dungeons to ease you in, and a demo from which progress can be transferred so you can test it out

From there, move on to the Untolds and then 3. Play EO1/2 if you feel like you can handle it.

Anon you could get immunize disgustingly quick and it negated the need for any defensive class outside of the final boss, and said final boss could kill you with maxed out elemental walls due to how said walls worked.

Not true, instead of just nulling attacks they heal you, with each point increasing that heal, but the reason to stop there is to save points, plus some bosses have attacks that have a secondary ailment effect on them, so if you absorb the attack, you'll get hit by the ailment

Binds were kinda shitty in first game, so it was the better build. Plus I think swords had more ATK than whips, making them better for when using bait(which was ridiculous).

If you are playing Untold 1, then go for story mode first.
Because the new dungeon, gunner and highlander, most achivements, some skills and the best katana are story mode only.
