Just picked this up at a garage sale for a few bucks. Holy shit is this the last good Sonic game?
>>
>>340001232
Probably.
>>
>>340001232

Saying it was, "the last good sonic game" doesn't make much sense considering there has only been one main series sonic game since generations. You're implying some big stretch of bad games has come out since, and that isn't true
>>
>>340001232
There's only been one game after, so "last" is maybe a bit melodramatic.
>>
>>340001609
lost worlds wasn't even that bad i thought the platforming elements were done really wel
>>
>>340001752
god no
>>
>>340001872
you must've been really bad then, i found them seamless and easy to navigate. It felt good going fast through them.

I strongly suggest playing the game though, it's pretty good. But the writing is cringe/10
>>
>>340002307
By going fast you mean spamming the spin dash since all the levels are straight aways without much platforming and the 2D sections are just hold right to win levels
>>
>>340001232
It's pretty good, yeah.
>>
>>340001752
no it wasn't. The Run button fucked up the 2D sections way more than it did.

The 2D levels were the worst in any Sonic games.

The 3D levels while decent were nothing but tons of flat areas and too much automated moments.
>>
>>340002491

you didn't play Lost World. it's nothing like this.
>>
>>340002664
I did and it totally is

what sonic game are you even describing right now
>>
>>340003103
>3/50 levels are straight, short, fun levels
well how many simple levels did super mario world have?
>>
>>340003103

Those are optimized playthroughs where the player has already memorized the level by playing through it several times. The platforming is very much there even though the video doesn't show it very well. There are many points throughout the levels (especially in that 3rd video) where you can easily fall off if you go to fast and don't know what's coming.

Most of the 2D stages in the game are a lot slower than the one you linked. They aren't very good but they are definitely platforming-focused and not just "hold right to win".

You can't seriously tell me that this level is "hold right to win".
>>
>>340003391
4 acts per world with 6 zones = 28 stages in total

Each zone has 1 tube level which is hold right to win so that's 21 stages, then we have 2 rail stages and 2 tunnel stages so now we're at 17, there are 7 2D stages that are all hold right so now we're at 10, now with gimmik stages like casino, honey comb and sky chase we have 6 stages left, then there's 1 final boss and in the end we have only 5 stages that are passable.

The fact that you brought mario into this for no reason is funny to me
>>
>>340003961
Only one of those videos was a time attack, besides of course I can say that's hold right to win when the player is always holding right
>>
>>340001232
Probably is, yeah. Even having said that, though, let's hope the next one isn't total shit.
>>
>>340004404

>discounting most of the stages for arbitrary nonsense reasons
>not counting the 7th world
>>
>>340004810
>7th world
you got highscore cube stage, the fucking pacman stage, a not platforming airplane stage and a corridor stage that loses platforms

The talk is about platforming so I removed the stages that did not have enough platforming
>>
>>340004592
>besides of course I can say that's hold right to win when the player is always holding right

that's not true though. at all. maybe actually watch the videos you posted instead of just skimming through them and acting like that's enough to be able to pretend you've played the game?

Is the player always holding right/forward for most of that first video? yes, other than that part where they're jumping across clouds.. but besides that, there are some later parts in the level where the player is doing some tricks that are pretty hard to pull off in order to not stop moving. Normally if you were to play that stage for the first time, you'd either be taking some of those parts slow or falling off and dying a lot. And also that video doesn't show the various alternate routes you can take in that level to search for the red rings, they are just taking the most straightforward, quickest route through the level and using pre-knowledge of the obstacles to go fast and make the platforming look trivial.

That 2D stage you linked is more than 50% comprised of a platforming boss battle where you are certainly not just "holding right".

And that 3rd stage is on an icy path with a lot of obstacles and platforming hazards that the player makes look easy because they've memorized the level and mastered the controls. You wouldn't be able to beat this level for the first time by simply holding forward and jumping like that video makes it seem. You'd know this if you had actually played the game. That level is fucking hard to speedrun like that.
>>
>>340001232
Really fucking good yeah.

Surprised by all the bad reviews when it came out.

>that nostalgia when going through Adventure levels

Sometimes I wonder that perhaps Sega and the Sonic Team put their heart and soul into this game, only to be heartbroken/mad that it didn't get good reception. Maybe this explains why they don't even try with the later games. Because Generations is really good.
>>
>>340005892
Except I did play the game and beat it, I find it hard to believe that you think any of that is hard to pull off, the levels are all structured in straight aways with no branching path and the only platforms being floating rectangles. Tropical coast 2 that actually does something with the planetoid theme.

The 3DS game had more interesting levels than the wiiu one since it's always a straight line
