Honestly, at this point, Ash himself is the ass pull hax bullshit trainer. Ash-Greninja is overpowered as fuck. It has the power of a Mega Evolved Pokemon but Ash himself synchronized with Greninja so whatever damage Greninja feels, Ash feels it too and he can even directly control Greninja's movement and attacks.
He also has one more slot open for a 6th Pokemon. It can be a Mega Pokemon (since Greninja techinally isn't a Mega Pokemon). Ash is so overpowered this time around it's not even funny

When X/Y were first released I had just recently gotten fired, so I decided to take it easy with games and ended up not buying it. So I haven't played Pokemon since Pearl.
But there has been so many Pokemon games since then that I really don't quite know what to do anymore. Should I just disregard all of them and just consider them games I missed and jump straight to Sun and Moon, or are they still worth playing?

Platinum is a HUGE improvement over D/P. All of the new evolutions are available in the game, much better selection of Fire-types, the story is greatly expanded on, and it fixed a lot of the problems D/P had.
HG/SS are remakes with a lot of stuff added to them, including the Crystal plot of Suicune and Eusine. Definitely worth getting them.

I always felt BW had some of the series' more lackluster tracks outside of a few like Route 10, but B2W2 had some great battle themes like Colress' and the World Tournament gave us some great remixes.
Both Plasma battle themes and Decisive Battle! N are among my favorites.
