My biggest disappointment was /v/s reaction AFTER the kickstarter got big for Shenmue III.
Years ago when Shenmue III was barely a rumor, and more a hope that people had, I remember plenty of threads here of people remembering the game fondly, and have conversations about it. People had either given up on on a third installment, or hoped Yu Suzuki would look into crowd funding.
Then, when the kickstarter gets big, all of the posters state that no one ever liked Shemue, it was a shit game, and if you said anything about it you were a shilling hipster. It's a bummer.

Only Redditors would pretend to like Shenmue, buddy. Shenmue 3 was a joke like Duke Nukem Forever and HL3 for quite awhile. A meme if you will. Shenmue is not a good game. The voice acting is laughable, the combat is subpar even for the time, the camera can be frustrating in said fights, story is meh, there are QTEs everywhere, and the minigames are garbage and annoying. As hard as this is for you to believe, I genuinely like the Shenmue games. Are they perfect? No, but people can like games that aren't perfect.
I've played through them at release, and again last year, and look forward to playing them again sometime soon, I love the games.
The games invoked a feeling of living in specific time, and world. The exploration of the world, the feeling of living in it through the jobs, notebook, and working towards finding out who Lan Di is / finding him day by day just all works really well. And you can play a bunch of SEGA arcade games if you feel like it, it's a whole world and I loved it.
The game is dated, I won't deny it, the controls definitely take a minute or two to adjust to, yet still when that reveal trailer came on last year I was nearly as excited as those people in the OP.
