Labrys' story in Arena is really the best thing about the whole deal, and you have to wade through some seriously repetitive to shit to get to it.
The gameplay itself is 'mash square to win' as long as you're playing against the computer.

Actually, yes. I went through Persona 3 again about two weeks ago and realized that I remembered all of the worst parts about Yukari and none of the good parts. That said, I think it's still pretty easy to dislike her, but in general all the P3 girls are great.

Just so you know, there are other people that take video games way too seriously and have real connections to the characters. I did that back when P3 was originally released in 2007 and at one point actually told myself they were my friends because I had no real ones to interact with.

I think the main issue people have with him coming back, is that P3's overall themes and messages would be destroyed in the process.
I personally don't think it would, I mean P3 has been out for 10 years now, if it was gonna effect anyone it would've by now, and it's not as if the spin offs haven't been foreshadowing it, so it wouldn't exactly be out of nowhere.
