Only %60 upvotes at Steam. Are you fucking kidding me? This one is the best space sim ever made.
>>
See you, space cowboy. :^)

It is great, but so empty... It has great potential, but there needs to be more to do than just fighting, exploring or mining.
>>
>>339966897
game copy past empty systems with 5 copy paste missions. They then put out a $50 expansion so you could land on planets with fuck all to do.
>>
Probably due to the jew move they pulled when they first released/announced the expansion pack.
Also this >>339967096.
It just gets boring after a few hours and the dev doesn't care.
>>
Boring flight model (weak yaw)
Boring quests (FedEx + Kill x generic enemies)
Boring copy pasted locations
Boring soundtrack
Boring players
The sound design and interfaces are good but it's not enough to salvage it.

I totally agree with you. But still it's better than many shitty games in Steam. This one needs more love imho.
>>
>>339967307
Forgot boring ship design too.
Also the world doesn't feel alive whatsoever.

Wish I didn't buy this shit full price.

Because it's an average game at best.

>Every career path only has one thing to do, ever
>Game is one giant loading screen
>AI was just fixed and is still broken
>Everything is a grind, if you want to get to Elite ranks prepare to spend 100 hours doing boring shit
>If you want to get certain ships prepare to dedicate another 100 hours doing boring shit

As a man who played hundreds of hours of Frontier: Elite II this game is the Holy Grail of HD Remakes. The common complaints of 'there's nothing to do' are endemic to the entire space sim genre. i really feel like long time fans of the genre could sink right in to Elite Dangerous's phenomenal presentation and UI.

My complaints are that for a modern space game, the features they're selling in the expansion packs are mechanics that have been around forever and should have been in the base game anyway. Wingman AI is as easy as Freespace 2 made it. Landing on planets is old hat. There's no reason they shouldn't have come with the package.

I think people judge this game too harshly because they're not used to what space sim originally meant: a good album, a podcast, or an audio book and hours spent calmly trekking around.

Wow there's a high fucking bar.

>This one needs more love imho.
Yeah it does need more love FROM THE DEVELOPERS. Then and only then might it deserve anything more from customers (if the devs do a good job). There are thousands and thousands of vidya, and for lots of us even money isn't an actual issue (I'm a 32 tech worker and bachelor, I've got far more disposable income then vidya could consume), out limiting factor is TIME. An hour spent in a so-so game is an hour that could have been spent in an awesome game, because even if we restrict to the top 5% cream of the crop there are STILL not enough hours in the day to get through our backlogs. Being a 5/10 or a 6/10 or 7/10 doesn't necessarily cut it.

I agree that E:D had a decent potential foundation, but even there I feel they made some strategic blunders, and foundation aside sorry OP but there just ain't much meat on dem bones. I had way more fun recently going back and playing some new mods with some friends in Freespace 2 Open then playing in E:D.

If they get their shit together then great, but if not then tough. At this point I'm actually somewhat more hyped to see what the Infinity guys do even then E:D which should not be the case.

100% retarded multiplayer system.

>entire space sim genre

And yet Evochron in the first hour has more to do than ED does in hundreds.
>>
>>339966897
I like it but there really anything to do later on at the game. Yeah landing one planets was amazing the first few times but you realize that it's just the same rock with a different color scheme after the 5th. The grind for this game is like Korean mmo tier and the fact that they keep adding more and more RNG and grind elements are a turn off.

Also, there is little to no depth and variety for this game.

On the plus side tho...the flight control and combat is really fun and the sound design is one of the best out there right now for any genre.
>>
I didn't think it was possible to make a space game more ZzZzZzZzZzZ than EVE but Elite somehow managed it.

The development team is a fucking joke, so much wasted potential.
>>
>>339968294
>but you realize that' it's just the same rock

I think the biggest issue is that Frontier is constantly selling the foundation of a game, rather than a fucking game. Both the base game and horizons is just lacking everywhere in content.
>>
>>339968405
EVE isn't ZZzzZZ though unless you stupidly stick to missioning or high sec mining, which truly is an intense ZzZzz (objectively so in fact, given all the botting). You do have to go make your fun though and be good enough for that, and that can either be a strength or a major weakness, and each side has a point (and yeah, CCP could have made normal person missions even much more diverse and interesting and failed). But at least EVE has a point in terms of the sandbox and the interactions and risk/reward that results.

E:D doesn't even have that. They have boring copy/paste minimal themepark, but then they neutered the sandbox massively too so it's not like players could just emergently make something within the box. If a dev decides they don't have the budget for much content and just want to sandbox it, well fair enough, it's a strategy, a niche one but at least it make sense. But if you're going to go that route you need to go all the way or not bother. It can't be a sandbox and also be 100% "safe" and "optional".

I've only played Evochron Mercenary and I'll agree, the game has an amazing flight model and a gorgeous soundtrack but I do not like the map system and the ship customization is better in Elite. Evochron does allow you to do some beautiful things, I made a good orbit around a moon keeping myself just inside mining range, was pretty cool when I set it up. Also love the massive 6700m/s strafe runs
>>
>>339968274
Not to mention the game was developed by a single person who didn't ask for Jewstarter money. Frontier has no excuse.
>>
I bought Horizons and it's shit.

I logged into Engineers for about 10 minutes and then uninstalled, it didn't fix any of the games problems

When people say they want more content what do they mean?

What specifically do you want to do that you couldn't already?
>>
>>339969996

I want to be able to do things with my friends in game.

I want to be able to organise a group in game, whether that be a guild/company/corp/clan whatever.

Just some sort of interface where we can get together and do stuff.
>>
>>339969996
>What do they mean

Instances that don't consist of a single point of interest. Actual places to explore. Pirate bases, construction yards, hell even dyson spheres and fantastical elements. There is an exploration career and yet there's nothing to actually fucking explore. I recall some friends mentioning that they had found a system with four stars some thousand LY away from the bubble. I found a system just like that on a smuggling run within the bubble.

There need to be missions that aren't just go to system x and do kill person or retrieve object from RNG USS. Proper escort missions or defensive ones. There should be more station types and actual hubs within instances. And multiplayer has jack shit to do. You either murder NPCs instantly or sit at an RES speaking once every 20 minutes.

They fucked up.
Nerfing the flight assist off mode so that it's essentially just a handicap that you use if you want to die.
Remember this? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vvl7uaR1sfI Well, you cannot do 90% of the stuff in that video anymore.
Silent running is completely pointless because it just overheats your ship and drops your sheilds for the sake of 3 seconds of being hard to spot.
The multiplayer is a pain and 90% of people just play offline to avoid being constantly interdicted and as a result the online is full of nothing but pkers.
AI just spawns everywhere completely breaking suspension of disbelief and making the universe feel overcrowded
AI routinely cheats and obeys absolutely none of the rules of the game, they know when you have items in your cargo hold, they can follow you across impossible hyperspace jumps, they know when you collect missions, and in standard flight they know your location at all times, and can follow you without any line of sight or radar.
AI scanning also overrides all game logic such as silent running and chaff
The focus on multiplayer has resulted in a universe that you cannot interact with, you can't so much as blow up an asteroid.
There is nothing to work towards other than bigger ships, but even then, doing so is just a pain, and if you are happy with your current ship there is no reason to do so.
Despite the massive potential for it, there is no player housing or base building elements.
Mining is garbage.
There is no metagame because the game constantly cheats.
The only way to do anything is do it exactly the way the devs intended you do it.
Cosmetic customisation, instead of being linked to rank and missions, is locked behind extortionate microtransactions.
Stellar phenomenon like contact binary star systems lack the visual effects they deserve
Supercruise is terrible, it requires practically no input, yet at the same time requires just enough that you cannot alt+tab
They pandered to 40yr old dads.

>Silent running is completely pointless because it just overheats your ship and drops your sheilds for the sake of 3 seconds of being hard to spot.

Haven't played in a while, but Silent running for the purposes of smuggling is OP as fuck right?

You can literally breeze through deliver illegal cargo missions and earn millions in minutes provided you know how to avoid interdiction.
>>
>>339972981
>For the purpose of smuggling

Against NPCs it used to do nothing. After the recent update it allegedly (according to Frontier) keeps NPCs from scanning you from 1km out. But that anon is focusing on silent running used for combat.
>>
>>339966897
Lot of that is negative reviews from people pissed that when you buy the expansion you get the base game for free but only get a tiny discount on the expansion if you paid full price for the original.

Also it's really fucking repetitive and shallow. The fastest way to make money as a bounty hunter is to lurk in asteroid fields ganking pirates. The fastest way to make money as a trader is to find an exploit and take advantage of it. There's no player organizations. All it does well is look and sound pretty. As a game, you're probably better off buying one of the Evochron games if you want to do some space shit, there's more to do.
>>
>>339969996
Bounty hunting that consists of actually tracking down a target for a big reward.

Bounty hunting that consists of tracking down a PLAYER for a big reward.

Bounties that don't basically disappear after one jump.

Law enforcement that actually has degrees between "pay a fine before you can trade and shit" and "kill on sight," e.g. maybe you have to do a community service mission for your crimes, your ship gets impounded, NPCs try to capture you alive, etc.

How about some MMO shit to go with it since it's effectively an MMO? Player-run organizations, empires and guilds and such. They make a big deal out of the Fuel Rats being a thing, so why the fuck don't you let them form an alliance in the fucking game? How come the only big wars we can fight are proxy wars for NPCs that consist of a portrait and a paragraph? Why the fuck can't I be a space pirate with my own space Nassau?

This game has so many issues. It's so fucking boring, which is a goddamn crime because it looks and sounds amazing.

>>339972752
>Supercruise is terrible, it requires practically no input, yet at the same time requires just enough that you cannot alt+tab

If they'd just increase the accel and decel rate on that shit it wouldn't be so fucking irritating.
