Persona 3 is gateway SMT, P4's aesthetic is so far removed from SMT it might as well be its own series, except for the fact that it uses some of the same demons and terminology. I love 4 and all, but at this point it's SMT in name only, and even that's been removed now.
Really, it's more like Persona 4 is a gateway to Persona 3, which is a gateway to SMT. Though Megaten games already have really diverse styles of gameplay, all of them except P4 share a pretty similar gothic aesthetic in a big city.

One thing I really like is the calendar system and how much it strengthens the roleplaying.

Fun RPGs, element of challenge that forces you to be smart about how you fight provided you aren't ridiculously overlevelled and even then some fights can be hard if you're stupid and prepare poorly. Quirky characters and their interactions through an event of calendar system that are generally tolerable and even fun and enjoyable by anime inspired standards. It's an element that works well which is surprising since it's essentially a visual novel element. It kind of helps that there's more to do on a given in game day than just be completely railroaded by yes/no event trees and dating simulations though you can also do those things too and it serves a purpose gameplay wise.

Haven't really listened to a lot of the tracks, would rather be surprised when the game comes out and they have official names. The fact that it's tied to your Personas potential makes it matter is more what I was getting at. You can still fuse your Personas and kind of get by without building them up but it's going to take a hell of a lot more time and effort bringing them up and you'll never get the ultimate version of any of the Arcana which is kind of important come time for end game.
