What did you like about Shin Megami Tensei I?
Nothing really

The music.

Carefree fusing, where taking a look at HP/MP was enough to justify a fuse. Now it's fucking archaic.
>>339951519
The part where I finally got out of the town.
The constant random encounters that give no exp
That when you run from an encounter you are set back one espace and then you try to go forward again and another encounter happens
Oh wait SMT1 was shit
I fucking loved SMT1.
>>339951796
I also loved that bosses had no strategy to them all you do is use zap and ice spells to make them waste turns
And the lack of a map, amazing! And all demon recruitment being totally random!
Fuck SMT the series didnt get good until SJ
It's really addictive.
>>339952334
There was a map though.
>>339952334
There's no such thing as "zap" spells. The fact that you didn't even mention nerve bullets and zio make it clear that you didn't play the game.
Had the best atmosphere and characters, all the later games just ripped them off
>>339951519
fuck off pascal
>>339951519
The soundtrack
The simpler and thus less clusterfucky fusion system
The plot once it got rolling
That entire fucking Alice segment
>>339952542
You know what I meant, I was tipyng fast and didnt remember they were called zio spells woohoo I did play the game but say whatever you want who cares.
Is Pascal the best vidya dog ever?
>>339952937
Sure...
>>339952334
>SMT didn't get good until SJ
>what is nocturne
>what is raidou
>>339953249
>what is nocturne
a shitty smt game
>what is raidou
a not smt game
>>339953249
You forgot if
>>339953481
Translation when
>>339952334
>SMT didnĀ“t get good until Persona 3
There, hard to admit, but its the truth.
>>339953549
Never. Eternal Punishment PSP will get translated before If...
when will the ps1 version of smt be translated
>>339953631
Damn you Gideon.
>>339953592
But P3 played like ass.
SMT didn't get good until P4.
SMT1 > SMT3 > SMT4 > SMT2
Fact.
>>339953775
3 > SJ > 1 > 2 > 4
>>339952940
pic related from MGSV would like to have a word with you.
>>339953890
What are the worthwhile games of this series? I only played the persona games and they're ok, 3 and 4 are kinda good.
This main series looks like a bunch of random ideas from religious themes slapped together.
>>339954274
All the other PS2 Megaten games are good too. Play those.
>>339954274
every game that's been localized, and even some that aren't
avoid demikids.
>>339953592
>>339953726
Obligatory.
>>339955457
So it's Megami Tensei Persona?
>>339955612
Megami Ibunroku Persona.
>>339953775
>>339953828
Face it. SJ is the only game with good dungeons, otherwise IV stands as the better game of the series, and only falls short when it comes to story or what many call as "charm".
>>339955801
IV is shit. The gameplay is a terrible glass cannon DPS RNG fest, fusion is fucked and the difficulty curve is retarded.
>>339955707
That's kind of neat. I knew DDS wasn't an SMT game originally, but not that Persona wasn't one either.
Kind of seems strange now that I think of #FE. Why Persona-like combat if it's Megami Ibunroku and not Shin Megami Tensei?
>>339955939
All three previous games suffer from some bullshit though.
I and II lets you freeze or charm to win, and II also suffers from a terrible backtracking quest that doesn't even compare to IV's neutral path.
And Nocturne while fun, is very lacking in demon variety and difficulty.
Whether you consider IV as the best or not is up to you; but dropping it at the very end of your rankings is just stupid.
>>339956323
#FE is a fusion accident.
>Pascal the dog is here.
>>339956323
#FE might not be either Persona, Megaten or FE.
I mean, sure, it's an RPG.
Sure, it has references to demons of the series. But so does Etrian Odyssey, and that doesn't suddenly turn EO into a megaten spin-off.
>>339956431
>nocturne lacking in difficulty
it's the hardest SMT game i've played so far, and i've played all mainlines and most spinoffs.
>>339956431
I liked IV, it's a good game, it's just my least favorite SMT. It has my favorite setting though.
>>339956692
Which spin-offs?
DDS and DeSu can be a lot harder than Nocturne.
>>339954274
All the mainline games are good, if flawed in some way.
DDS 1 and 2 are great, but lack the demon fusion and recruiting the series is known for, as well as having somewhat tedious final dungeons
Raidou 1 has great story but bad gameplay while Raidou 2 has me story and really good gameplay
Devil Survivor are good strategy RPGs
>>339956691
>Etrian references demons in Megaten
>Megami Ibunroku Persona is called Shin Megami Tensei Persona in other regions
>Persona had an Etrian spin-off
Fuck this shit. I'll just reset the universe
>>339956804
DDS 1 and 2 are actually some of the last I need to beat.
I did beat DeSu overclocked though, gin route. It was difficult but the curve was extremely wonky with some parts being really easy and then being nigh impossible.
When Thor died and launched the count down. Was a real treat that more games should do.
>>339952940
>>339953890
both wrong
I'm actually trying to play the series in release order, so I've only played Megami Tensei I and II and SMT I and II.
SMT I is my least favorite so far.
>>339957590
Please leave and take your wrong answer
>>339957590
>>339952940
Both are shit dogs that failed to protect their master.
>>339951519
The gameplay is shit as a whole but I like how using disabling status effects to prevent enemies from ever even getting a turn is a strategy you can use to reliably kill enemies who are much higher level than you and could kill you in one hit, coming out unscathed.
It's a bit broken to be perfectly honest but it feels like a less dumb way to fight than just tanking all these stupidly powerful attacks.
I also liked how the inventory isn't very bloated compared to later games, since there aren't many slots. Carrying a million items I'm never going to use just bothers me for some reason, useless clutter in game design just triggers my autism.
It would also make deciding what items to take with you an interesting thing to think about if the game was hard enough for it to matter at all.
Oh, and having a lengthy pre-apocalyptic section of gameplay before the post-apocalyptic part is a really nice idea, it does actually feel a little sad when you get to post-apoc Tokyo and realise how shit everything is now in comparison to before and how much was lost.
I also just like those kinds of apocalyptic crisis situations in general.
>>339951519
The story and atmosphere are actually really great, and so is the music (though I wish there more of it though). I also liked how you could use guns in auto combat and I have no ideia why they took that out in the sequel.
I really think SMT II surpassed it in just about every way, though.Except for the stupid backtracking in the first half of the game.
