I actually don't have a PS4, just a Vita. PSone emulation on the Vita is pretty nice, so I'm guessing it's also good on the PS4.

It seems to be pretty smooth. It's got a few extra features like triple speed fast forwarding and disabling limit-breakers. It's all freely toggle-able from the other buttons on the remote.
