Killing neon covered house hold appliances with a katana.
This game's great
>>

Do enemies still need eight rockets each to kill?
>>
>>339941321
From what I've heard it rebalances everything, and adds the cyber katana.

Oh, and they apparently made it look worse or someshit.
>>
>>339941321
Don't know 'cause I didn't play the redux yet, but the new edition says they worked on "pacing and rebalance of enemies", meaning if'ts probably faster to kill them.

Did they fix the missing particules and effects ? Because god damn, it made the redux version looks a lot worse than the vanilla one.

Can you upgrade the katana?

They essentially downgraded it so it would run smoothly on consoles, and gave the same version, graphically inferior to the previous one, to PC users.
>>
>>339942347
Well let's not get ahead of ourselves here, Shadow Warrior 2 looks like it still has bullet sponges.

I don't know how the ex-Painkiller guys are responsible for this, none of the enemies in Painkiller felt spone-y for me.
>>

The best thing is they still claimed that it's got improved graphics and technology.
>>

>>339942842
The worst part of all this is that they are going to pull the original version from Steam right away. Just like it happened with Metro.

Fucking jews.
>>
>>339942842
Well, it does, since they changed a lot of effects from baked to dynamic. It's undoubtedly technically more advanced. They should have had quality settings for them though.
What this tells is that their implementation of AO and generic post-processing is very inefficient, so they had to tune everything down to make it not sluggish.
The original game ran fine on my HD5770, there was no need for a downgrade on PC for performance's sake.
>>
>>339943098

From what I can tell after 1 minutes of research, they added a weapon (the sword pictured at the top of this thread), added a dash ability (similar to the one in the Shadow Warrior reboot), and made changes to the combat which supposedly fix the first game's "bullet sponge" problem. The latter two changes might actually drastically improve the game, depending on the specific details which I don't have.
>>
>>339947889
Made it easier
>>
>>339947889
Improvements to gameplay that were introduced in Shadow Warrior seem to have been added to this version of the game. You now have a dash move and most enemies don't feel like total bullet sponges anymore. Also they added a sword for some reason.

It's a shame about what they did to the graphics, but I can probably look past it if the game is more fun to play overall.
>>
>>339945214

PC market has fucking boomed over the last few years, but the hardware the vast majority are gaming on has plateaued.

So it makes sense to do releases like this that sacrifice a little visual fidelity in pursuit of fucking astronomical improvements to optimization.

Oh and Batman was just shitty art direction handled by a literal Chinese 3D sweatshop, Dead Island is just a quick and dirty cash grab.
>>
>>339948329
>most enemies don't feel like total bullet sponges anymore
Where does the challenge come from, then? The only enemies I felt had too much HP were the small ones, and that was partially because I used the AR, which is an absolute shit weapon.

I still need to beat the original Hard Reset on Heroic mode. I was just barely able to beat the game on Insane mode without losing my mind, and Insane actually has checkpoints. Heroic is harder and has no checkpoints.

Has anyone ever beaten the game on Heroic? Any tips?

I'm still mad at this game after the bullshit it pulled last time I played it. I might just cheat through Heroic as a childish act of revenge.

Low poly and low texture sharpness since hands weren't visible in the first release.

It's also raining and making a distortion effect.
>>

>Considering the amounts of time when I died due to exploding traps, getting stuck when moving etc. I just never bothered. Insane is good enough for me.

Part of me feels the same way, but I still have the urge to finish this (incredibly flawed) game whenever I see that I only have one real achievement left to unlock. To be honest, I died so many times between checkpoints on Insane that I can't imagine ever getting through an entire level on Heroic without dying.

>>339948790

It's only in the "Redux" version of the game released yesterday. It's $3 if you have the original version, and there are some gameplay improvements. But the supposedly "enhanced" graphics are very clearly downgraded; there's no disagreement on this.

I liked SW but I just couldn't get into Hard reset. The movement was so godamn slow and Wild Hog can't into guns.

Also both those games have those ridiculous things in the environment that explode if you so much as sneeze on them and do massive damage to you while not feeling like proper explosions at all. I blew up all the shit in a room as soon as I entered it because of that. Those explosions killed me more than the actual enemies.

>>339949063
>Also both those games have those ridiculous things in the environment that explode if you so much as sneeze on them and do massive damage to you while not feeling like proper explosions at all.
Haha, so true. It's even worse in SW than in HR because in SW you generally want to use the katana (unlike guns, it's actually pretty fun), and it has a huge range so if you accidentally swing you around, say, a car it's game over. Because cars explode if you touch one with the katana. That's what they do, yeah.
>>
>>339949063
>I blew up all the shit in a room as soon as I entered it because of that. Those explosions killed me more than the actual enemies.

The exploding hazards in Hard Reset are dangerous, but the game is designed around the assumption that you'll use them on the enemies, so wasting them is a bad idea on higher difficulty levels. In some parts of the game, you could actually run out of ammunition and be completely fucked if you rely only on your guns.

That's why people say the enemies in the original Hard Reset are bullet sponges; technically, they are, but you're supposed to be using environmental hazards to do fucktons of damage to them.
>>
>>339949202

Oh, sorry for assuming. If you're already playing Redux then I can't help you because I haven't played it yet. Google it, I guess?
>>
>>339949329
>In some parts of the game, you could actually run out of ammunitio
You run out of that all the time, it regenerates to HALF so it's not a huge deal. Just switch between guns as the other one regenerates.
>>
>>339949486

That's true. I kind of forgot about the regenerating ammo. The game sure is an asshole about enemy health and exploding objects though.
>>
Graphical downgrade aside, while I do like the addition of the dash I wish it was tied to a stamina meter like in the original, either that or the range of the dash should be cut down.

Considering most enemies are either melee, short-ranged AoE or use homing attacks, having infinite dashes just trivializes the fuck out of the game and makes it piss easy even on the highest difficulty.

So you end up with having the original which is far too tedious at points versus having this new one which is babby tiers of easy, neither really strikes the middle ground on being satisfying.
>>
>>339949665
The enemy HP isn't even that bad, like, somewhere around midgame I realized standard gorillas actually take only 3 direct rocket hits - the problem is that their hitboxes are wonky when they run, so missing is easy, and that splash from RL kind of sucks so you can't rely on it. That's why stasis field thingy on the energy gun is important.

>>339949807
So it is super-easy with all the changes. Kind of suspected that.
>>
I saw somebody saying the graphics are worse in the Redux.
>>
>>339949961
>stasis field thingy on the energy gun is important.

No kidding.

I got way too far into the game before learning the hard way that you fucking need that shit. Insane mode really forces you to make use of every stunning, freezing, slowing weapon. It's too bad that grenades and rockets basically become the only viable way of doing real damage, though.

>>
>>339950442
>grenades and rockets basically become the only viable way of doing real damage
Eh, I don't think I agree. Railgun is very good, 3 rail shots are roughly equivalent to two rockets IIRC (tested on those humanoid-ish robots), but rail is hitscan. Smartgun is surprisingly strong, I got it as the last upgrade because I heard it was too OP and against some enemies it indeed feels OP.
My mistakes were: upgrading the AR instead of buying the shotgun - I have a thing for machineguns, and AR looks so cool when it overheats, but it does NO DAMAGE AT ALL. NO DAMAGE. Shogun either one-shots or at the very least throws away small swarmers, who killed me SO MUCH in the early game because I used AR and that energy grenade launcher against them (which does damage-over-time and they run too fast to be affected strongly by it). I also didn't have those gravity grenades until midgame, they make swarmers much more manageable too.
When it comes for disables, I didn't like the shotguns EMP too much - feels like its duration is too short. I think the energy flamethrower-ish gun has some too, Arc Blaster, but I mostly used Stasis field for gorillas and gravity grenade for small ones. With stuff like grenadiers and scorpions I just used cover/moved and went for direct damage (usually rockets and rail shots, depending on what ammo I had).

Forgot about this one. I cheesed my way through a lot of fights with that.

>I didn't like the shotguns EMP too much - feels like its duration is too short

I agree. It barely gives you enough time to switch back to whatever weapon you were using before. Good for stopping a charging enemy though.

It's neither. I've played all of them and they're all very different. The original Hard Reset is a bit closer to Serious Sam than to Painkiller, though. Painkiller is all about moving fast (via stupid "bunny hopping") to out-maneuver enemies. In both Serious Sam and the original Hard Reset, movement is much more restricted. It sounds like this is changed in the Redux version, though.

I don't want to play around with ridiculous bullet sponges though. Some enemies in Doom could be a little spongey, but if you were using the right weapon combos you could blow right through them.

I like the feeling of not having to stop to focus on one enemy for 10 seconds.
>>
>>339958151
I don't know D44M, but I feel that given your comments you wouldn't like this, at least the original version. There are many "tank" enemies that need to be focused down while you also mow down swarms of little ones.
>>
Well, I've played original Hard Reset and I'm playing this one now on hard, I've just finished the first two levels. It's a huge improvement over the previous one, in my opinion. Movement doesn't feel like ass, there's a dodge move and you can strafe while sprinting (which you couldn't originally). This means dodging gorillas is actually viable now. Smaller enemies seem to have less HP. I can't say about enemy placement but overall it seems like a way better game now. I can actually have fun with it without getting pissed off now.
