It literally pops off, there's nothing holding them to the console. You can even buy replacements ones on ebay still for pennies if you still use your PSP. All you need to do is glue the nub onto the spot where the 3ds pad normally attaches.

Sony didn't lose it, Sony let it go. MH is a third party system seller, which means Capcom walked into Sony and Nintendo asking what they wanted to offer for exclusivity and Nintendo won.
Remember that Sony never cared about making the Vita popular in Japan. They wanted the west and they failed.

I'm sure they were decent but I'd probably be bored as hell. Sometimes you just don't really like a subgenre or genre. For another example I got really burned out on the whole rockstar formula. Red dead was ok but nothing special and I haven't played a gta since I got bored halfway through 4.
