DX12 doesn't ban multi-threading - in fact the main point of it is to allow multiple driver threads on the cpu (in DX11 its primarily only a single driver thread but Nvidia has some multi-threading which is why they have a cpu overhead advantage over AMD).
Automatic async isn't even a thing - that is a gross misunderstanding of Nvidia's premeption. Also consider nvidia themselves explicitly warn against lots of context switching (which is what async relies upon) due to the performance hit their hardware takes doing it. GCN gives zero fucks about context switching because it was explicitly designed for it.
