How could Kenji Inafune go from directing classics like Mega Man X, and Mega Man 9 to Mighty Blunder 9? I just don't get how a visionary like him can get so side tracked.
>>339922923
It's Keiji. With an I.
>>339922923
Thank you con man.
I at least could endure the shit design if the graphics were better
but nope it looks awful. Maybe it'll at least shine in the gameplay department.. we'll see in 2019 I guess
>>339923234
you're drunk Todd
>>339923432
>I at least could endure the shit design if the graphics were better
Just the opposite. The design is fine. The model is horrifying. The game needs cell shading and models that look more like the character art.
>>339923570
Well when I look at that pic it looks fine, but OPs pic makes it loko bad
>>339922923
Could anyone explain to me wow does one even earn the title of a visionary by making the same game over and over for over a decade?
>>339923636
Because almost all the fan art is based on the character art, where Beck has better proportions and face. Notice how they make his hands/legs HUGE and exaggerate those marks near his eyes.
>>339923846
>there were people out there who looked at this figurine and said "yup, looks great. let's ship it"
>>339923663
Created the classic, x, legends, zero series. that's a visionary.
>>339924058
Everything but the face looks decent and you can pass off the face as shitty art style
>>339922923
Go read what Kamiya said about him and you'll have your answer.
>>339924509
This. Inafune is a fucking cheapskate
>>339924631
>>339924509
He's a snake oil salesman.
Mighty?
No!
9
>>339924631
>>339924509
>>339924765
Kamiya was praising Inafune's talents as a visionary and business leader. Only in the West would calling someone a "businessman" be considered bad. In Japan businessmen are highly praised. This statement has been wildly misused to mean something Kamiya never meant to.
The Best Gamers were streaming a leaked build a few days back and it just looked really fucking boring.
>>339924831
Yeah, I'm sure he loves the guy after he shut down Clover Studios.
>>339922923
George Lucas syndrome
he gets credit for a lot of shit other people did because he happened to be the game director at the time.
>>339924924
Did a single Clover game even sell? Why should Inafune then be blamed for shutting down a studio that lost money?
>>339923432
Played it at last years comic con dont get your hope ip for the gameplay the dasjing isnt momentum based like in the zero/zx series its similar to the dashing in x1 but stiffer and the game wants you to dash towards dead enemies but half the time dashing towards them means fucking up a platforming section or crashing into more enemies
Tl;dr it tries to hard to be unique but ends up being awkward
>>339924982
He hasn't ever been a game director.
>>339925070
Actually the plaforming gets ruined by dashing because of how much you can just keep spamming it
You can bypass almost one of the stages entirely by just dashing off of a ladder since you don't fall while dashing
If they just removed the dashing combo shit they could have already had a much better game but it means they had to trim back level designs for it and even then you can still skip everything easily
>>339924907
>The Best Gamers were streaming a leaked build a few days back and it just looked really fucking boring.
Oh wow, that got leaked on /v/. Is it spreading around? That could get people in legal hot water.
>>339925046
They made good games which are considered classics. I can't wait to experience Inafune's downfall firsthand once Mighty no 9 gets released and people will collectively shit on it. The guy deserves it.
>>339925243
whoever leaked it is probably going to get into hot shit
>>339925483
He uses the trip Proto faggot. He attention whores in these threads. He says he's met Inafune and he has access to dev builds of games. Probably works at some game company or is a journalist. Tracing it back to him likely isn't that hard.
>>339925208
I didnt play enough to even try dashing so much i floated
Damn the game is so mediocre im so glad i didnt give money to conman
>>339925046
Viewtiful Joe was good enough on GCN to warrant a PS2 port, a sequel, two spin-offs, and an anime series, I think it did pretty fuckin' well for what it was.
>>339925573
They try to setup elaborate platforming at points but dashing almost always let's you just bypass it. Level design is usually just random enemies tossed around and they expect you to fight them all because of that combo score system. Taking a hit intentionally let's you just skip something that could have taken a minute just because you can dash through all of it and then the next room has full health waiting for you.
You can be the best director in the world, if you have a shitty team you're just directing shit around.
Keiji had Capcom talent to direct, now who the fuck knows what he has.
Also I honestly doubt Inafune was ever a good director, if you follow his career the megaman games always followed a steady decline, it's no wonder this game will probably end up being shit.
Even if the game is good it still looks like hot fucking garbage, he should really take the hint from the new Wonder Boy game and go with 2D assets and traditional animation, at least for the characters and mobs.

>Even if the game is good it still looks like hot fucking garbage, he should really take the hint from the new Wonder Boy game and go with 2D assets and traditional animation, at least for the characters and mobs.
It looks like HD 2D costs less, and looks better than 3D. 3D only looks as good if it has a good budget behind it.
But HD 2D games suffer from a problem where they tend to look very similar. Cartoony style and lacking in detail. I've never seen anyone take a high detail darker or more serious looking game with that. Like a Castlevania type game.
Wonderboy game looks like it has the most detail that I've seen out of them yet, but that's only promo footage so who knows if it means anything.
>>339926043
He's not a director and never has been.
>directing
He didn't direct any of those or MN9
He's a businessman producer
>>339926240
It probably depends where you live, I doubt you'll have any trouble finding prolific 2D animators in Tokyo, but in western countries it's probably way harder, and probably more expensive, and the flipside of it is you can throw a rock at random and there's a big chance you'll find some who can do skeletal 3D animation.
Also depends what you're animating really. If you're animating these huge detailed characters with a shitload of animations like a fighting game and semi-realistic proportions, 2D animation is probably going to be way more troublesome. But with a game like this where characters are pretty simple and with super deformed proportions it would probably be more easy to handle, plus way less animations per asset.
A good example though that seems to be going in the right direction is cuphead, but really we'll have to wait and find out.
On the flipside of staying away from that cell shaded cartoony look there's always vanillaware, but they sometimes go a little crazy with the animation tweening and puppet tools.
I have my own bias though, I love this kind of look. But when you scan through the general opinions the regular joe seems to hate it. The "it looks like a mobile game" comment, even if the animations are fucking stellar gets a little frustrating. I think most people really don't like that look. What a shame.
>>339923570
>>339923846
Those arms simply dont work in 3D
The giant head doesn't help either
>>339927038
I'd like to see something like Symphony of the night.
If you look at it, Alucard himself doesn't have that many animations. The attacks are mostly just re-used with the weapon changed.
I played the full version of the game that was leaked. It's not as bad as I thought it'd be the most offensive thing about it really is the visuals and the levels apart from the last with the Yellow Devil callback were just boring
Countershade's stage is a long corridor with very little platforming and Call's stand alone stage just makes me angry.
If they ever make a sequel I hope they take it seriously and Keiji's yes men fuck off.
First off, he was never a director. He's pretty much always been just the business guy, maybe some basic concepts or character art.
Second off pretty much all the ex-Capcom staff at Comcept were more RPG folk who worked on MMBN and MMSF, not any sort of proper action game. It's why the Soul Sacrifice games turned out good, being more ARPGs, but Yaiba is shit, and MN9 is mediocre at best and probably only held up by Inti, but even they seem iffy without someone good giving them direction.
Keiji Inafune only directed one game, ever. A shitty Vita exclusive MonHun clone. Everything else has been him stealing credit for other peoples work
>>339924094
>created
>>339932219
Don't tell me you wouldn't do the same, given the opportunity.
>>339922923
Because he's the worst kind of businessman. The kind of businessman who needs a corporate structure to buttfuck him into keeping his shit straight.
Left to his own devices, he will suck the consumer dry like the maggot he is.
>>339932219
>Soul Sacrifice
>Director - Teruhiro Shimokawa
>>339922923
Screw the haters, I am buying this game
>>339932580
Ah, so he's directed never and worked on game design in 2 games precisely. Apparently he's even more of a hack than I gave him credit for
>>339932876
He does art, character design and producing. That's it. He's never done any level design or anything ever.
>>339932876
>>339932943
How come Inafune took credit for the work that other people did? Isn't there some kind of pride thing going on in Japan?
>>339932943
>>339933131
Not really sure what "game design" would count for in Soul Sacrifice's case. Love the game immensely but it's just "story, then fight a boss".
Usually actual level/combat design gets a different tag for work.
Soul Sacrifice 2 when. Also I really need to get around to finishing all of SSD's story mode.
>>339922923
What he cares about is $$$ not making good games, back then to make dosh was to make a good game, now instead he needed to overhype retards and escape with the grub.
In his point of view the game was a good hit.
