The problem with 2 was they got the 1st part... not so much the second. Dan in particular goes from manly grunting to just sounding like some kind of wheezing old idiot.

Questionable since ps1 had many great games in many varying genres.
Also, M2 is where its really at, M1 has magic mood trough the game but M2 did something awesome, it mixed horror, magic, triller, scifi and steampunk.
Giant dinosaur skeletons, mummies, Jack the Ripper, levels ranging from Greenwich to freak show and garden with pumpkins rolling around.
Guns, swords, catting guns, Medievil 2 was awesome (still doesnt mean you should skip on M1)
I remember getting completely stuck at two points playing this as a child.
Trying to play the sleeping village I figured out pretty quick you're supposed to not kill the villagers... even I could see the chalice number dropping. What I couldn't figure out was where the fuck I was supposed to go. The level design was really confusing to me. So I just played all the other levels a bajillion times. The feeling of beating the enchanted grounds the first time was just nothing short of spectacular.
The other time I got stuck was the fucking maze level because I couldn't get the damn masks all looking inward. Fuck that shit.
First one is one of the greatest games on PS. Sequel is kinda bad, never bothered to finish it.

M2 felt weaker imho. While there was more variety in the weapons a lot of them just weren't very good. The level designs were really pisspoor and pretty unremarkable compared to 1. And it took a complete nosedive in the way of atmosphere. The bad guys sucked, the side characters were just annoying.
And it had like... what? 5 boss fights? What a damn joke. Especially because only like 2 of them (vampire and Jack) were any good. The final boss in particular is so goddamn boring.

I liked bosses and level design, large levels with something new to see behind every corner, platforming was demanding and even fun (except that part when you have to jump on the wall in museum after exiting the tomb) was enough to glue me to a screen.

I have to disagree heavily with that. 2 isn't bad but as highly as I revere the original I'd call it a disappointment. I'd only call a few levels like Kew Gardens, Kensington, and The Sewers as anything resembling standout, London was considerably duller than Gallowmere, the gargoyles were swapped out for Winston, progression is straightforward instead of intriguing asides like The Enchanted Earth, health fountains disappear forever after one use, the romance subplot felt forced, Dan Hand was cool but Dankenstein was lame, both Cathedral Spires levels were annoying with The Descent having some of the worst camera work seen in a 5th gen game, and so on. To me it was a near universal step down in quality.
